Sailboats

I found out about these dudes through some random youtube video. Im digging them a lot even though 2/3 of the members died in a car crash in 2003 =(. Checkem out.

MySpace.com - Sailboats - Berkeley, US - Other - www.myspace.com/behindtrees

Btw, has anyone else had their mediafire account deleted/noticed that no links work anymore?

kevinpunx 11-16-2007 10:13 PM

Sailboats is good. That first 2 songs in the demo was awesome but that song #3 and #4 sounds like ****.

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 11-17-2007 02:18 AM

I read somewhere song #3 and #4 were fake, but I don't know. Behind Trees and Song 2 are ****ing sick.

sleepy jack 11-17-2007 02:50 AM

To answer your question about mediafire they're pretty much deleting anything music related, it's pointless to upload there anymore because its down within a few hours usually. Megaupload is pretty much your best bet right now.

can_i_say 11-17-2007 10:11 AM

Behind trees is freekin awesome.

NoiseNotMusic 11-17-2007 05:56 PM

good stuff

alliteration 11-18-2007 11:10 PM

yeah. this band only has 2 songs out so far. those other 2 on the demo were fakes not done by the band. Supposedly this band recorded a bunch of songs before they ended, and I hear that Discos Huelga is releasing a discography at some point. I don't know if this will ever happen, though.

xcult_classicx 11-19-2007 10:04 AM

does anybody have any news links from the day it happened? i mean, about the incident itself?

MoonSpoon 05-06-2008 05:53 PM

I'm pretty sure these dudes didn't die.

bardonodude 05-06-2008 06:19 PM

yea i was reading on the dudes myspace, someone commented them saying that they knew all the members in the band and that their about me section isnt true lol.

MoonSpoon 05-06-2008 06:23 PM

I know one, possibly two, went on to be in Loma Prieta. If you ever go to a show, they sometimes play Sailboats' songs.

alliteration 05-06-2008 09:39 PM

yeah, and loma prieta is such a better band. i've never seen so many people go nuts over a band that has, in their entirety, 1 good song, and another ok one. but boy, do people go ape**** over this band and i have no idea why. we played a show with a band called we are the colossus, and they dedicated their set to sailboats. what?

bardonodude 05-06-2008 09:56 PM

haha, I agree Loma Prieta kicks much more major ass. I cant really get into 2 but behind trees is pretty awesome. Yea the vocals and drums sound the same as loma prieta though. Yea I saw some youtube videos of Loma Prieta playing behind trees. Damn I wish I knew about them when they came to Baltimore last year lol. I was a month late :(

xcult_classicx 05-07-2008 01:20 AM

LINK ME TO THAT VID.

i seriously think Last City is a real throwback to Sailboats

I know We Are The Colossus. Not to be an ass, but they're kind of ****s, or at least one of the guys. I heard they broke up as of last night.

I don't have a CLUE why Sailboats gets jocked so hard. Besides having a cool intro on one song, I think they're just past the point of mediocre on their 2 songs.

trust me, you're not the only one who thinks that about them. for the most part, i don't really know any of them very well, i just know their one guitarist is a pretty nice guy. musically, they're ok...i guess they rip off lion of the north quite a bit, but whatever. and i had no idea they broke up, but then again, ariadne's thread has been exiled from midwest DIY scene, so i wouldn't know anyhow.

totally agree about sailboats. behind trees is a solid tune, but outside of that, its nothing to **** your pants about. loma prieta's new cd certainly is though. it has to be one of my favorite screamo releases out there.

also, what is with all these screamo bands? they tour europe more than they tour the states, which is absolutely ludicrous. hey loma prieta, the us beats the pants off krautland anyday. seriously. its like "hey, lets never play michigan, but go play shows in switzerland."

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 05-07-2008 07:17 PM

or canada.

haha I guess touring Europe is the "screamo" thing to do. I read a couple of bands say that they love to tour Europe because the people are way nicer and a lot of the times people booking the show for you will feed you and give you a place to sleep.

I always wonder how the hell they fund those tours. Its hard enough getting money together for a US tour, let alone a European tour. Not only are you flying across seas with equipment and a half ton of other ****, but then there's van rentals and all that jazz. No wonder screamo bands have such short lives, they're too busy uppin' the punx to pay bills.

bardonodude 05-24-2008 12:49 PM

yea i agree, I guess most bands that go overseas have fulltime jobs and take vacation time or something

xcassiusx 05-24-2008 07:33 PM

Plus, in Europe (if you do a major tour like Off Minor is doing), then chances are you're going to need a driver to help you out. Unless, by chance, you know how to get across all those countries. Paying driver + gas = only two factors that probably add up to a big total.

I don't know how Off Minor is affording all that (while traveling Japan, Australia, etc.) Then again, they've rarely played the past 2 years, so they're probably putting all their savings into it. OH, plus they just recorded a full length and a split.

... What the **** do they do for a living?

xcult_classicx 05-24-2008 07:45 PM

i was wondering that, too.

i know jamie is a doctor or something like that. as of a couple years ago, he was finishing up interning and his doctorate degree, so i'm sure he does quite well for himself. i'm pretty sure they all are quite well off.

akgow 05-28-2008 10:06 PM

i've been trying to figure out how to get men as trees to europe lately. seems like unless you know someone over there who wants to book it for you, it will never happen. i just think it would be a blast to see europe for the first time with my band. but yeah, i'm jealous as hell at bands that tour outside of north america.

that's funny. i'm jealous as hell of bands who tour INSIDE of north america.

akgow 05-29-2008 02:19 PM

lol, grass is always greener dude!

xcassiusx 06-10-2008 04:40 PM

On the topic of bands touring Europe, Dolcim has announced they'll be touring Europe next year, and they have only existed as a band for a couple of months at most.

Uhhhh...

akgow 06-10-2008 05:32 PM

I think being ex.cease upon the capitol might help a little bit. i know those dudes have toured europe at least once.
