Shotmaker

discuss.

alliteration 01-14-2008 04:00 PM

My band did a cover of Uninhibited. Its coming out on a screamo cover comp sometime next month I think. Shotmaker was one of the best emo bands out there.

Great band, must play their cd today.

weleasewoger72 01-14-2008 04:59 PM

One of the greatest bands ever - FACT!
Anyone who disagrees with this - step outside and we'll discuss this like real men.

As long as you don't say they were the greatest Canadian band.

Don't get me wrong. I love Shotmaker but Union Young America did more for me in 3 songs then they did in 30.

weleasewoger72 01-16-2008 05:53 PM

i guess that's ok because I thought you were going to be predictable and say Uranus or One Eyed God Prophecy were better. (Both great bands as well).

People should check out 30 Second Motion Picture and Three Penny Opera - both from the ashes of Shotmaker. I think The Grey may have ex Shotmaker as well.

xcult_classicx 01-16-2008 07:55 PM

i love both Shotmaker and OEGP

Shotmaker came far before Union Young America and was so completely different than anything else around... I love both bands but my vote goes to Shotmaker.
What all did Three Penny Opera release?

As far as I'm aware they have only released a LP and one 7".

bloodorflies 01-25-2008 01:20 PM

i toured with three penny opera once....there were really good, although i honestly wouldn't call them the most friendly band i ever met........ ....i do believe threepenny had more than just 1 LP and a 7" ....they definitely had more 7"....at least enough to fill another full album...check out, countless trips from here to there.

weleasewoger72 01-25-2008 05:10 PM

If someone can list three Penny Opera's entire discography that would be great.

bloodorflies 01-25-2008 05:56 PM

check the last line.....i know i have about 13 songs that are not on the LP.

______________________________________

Ottawa’s Three Penny Opera started in early spring of 1997 in the basement of Adam and Hayden Menzies (who are identical twins, born two and a half years apart). Rounding out the band were Shawn Stapleton and Brian Martin. At this point Three Penny Opera were one player short of a hockey team and had several instrumentals in the can. They ran into Matt Deline (ex-Shotmaker, ex-30 Second Motion Picture) at a basement punk show and asked him to sing (and play nets). This was during the waning of 30 Second Motion Picture and Matt was a little unsure of starting something new. In the end everything worked out quite nicely. Three Penny Opera’s first match was on May 24th 1997 in Quebec City where they lost a close game to hometown favorites Fifth Hour Hero. Their first home game saw them defeat Chicago’s Braid, 5-2. Since then, Three Penny Opera’s 1986 GMC Vandura 2500 has traveled over 40,000 kilometres and the band has played 82 shows and 213 street hockey games. 3PO have replaced virtually every major part of the van except for the engine itself. They have also gone through three bass players. Brian Martin returned to the band on a free agent deal in the first round of the 1998 draft. Besides the two spectrasonicsound releases, two songs from countless trips appear on District Skateboards No Time To Heal video.

chickendude 01-26-2008 08:12 AM

Do you think you could send me their "Countless trips from here to there" release?

The t-dt-b site lists both Spectrasonic releases as well as the LP, but the only 7" is the one released on Spectrasonic. Do you know what releases aren't listed?

I confirm that Shawn S. is mentionned on the insert of the 7" as playing guitar. Certainly more a guest than a full time member
If it's not S. for scallen, what does it stands for?

cheers

LL Cool J 01-26-2008 10:03 AM

here's the link to some artwork Shawn Scallen did

By the way, what band were you in? I feel like you mentioned it before, but i can't remember..

xcult_classicx 01-26-2008 11:05 AM

LL Cool J 01-26-2008 11:13 AM

sorta like fugazi, in a good way.

chickendude 01-26-2008 11:56 AM

Really? I remember reading a review a while back about a band called Staynless (who are amazing)... ahh here it is: Splendid E-zine: at a glance reviews - January 10, 2000 (check the 2nd to last review). I was never big on Fugazi, but i could always get down to some GPR.
What Canadian bands did you play with? There were a ton of small Canadian bands in the late 90s that are almost impossible to track down! And i'd love to hear the rest of your stuff :)

xcult_classicx 01-26-2008 12:25 PM

what did you do in the band again?

chickendude 02-04-2008 02:17 AM

I have the Self-Titled 12" (Three Penny Opera) if anyone's interested..

xcult_classicx 02-04-2008 04:27 AM

bardonodude 02-04-2008 08:26 AM

I've been big into Shotmaker for a few years, but I've only ever had the mp3s of their discography. The lyrics are generally hard to make out, so I was wondering if anyone was privy to them. Otherwise, would the actual discog cd or original Mouse-ear (what I'm mostly interested in) have them in the liner notes?

alliteration 12-14-2009 07:09 AM

yeah, I have mouse ear, and i believe the lyrics are in the liner notes

bardonodude 12-14-2009 12:16 PM

ive never been able to get into this band. Im going to check them out again when i get home though.
