romanticism & emo
 

do u think romanticism (u know, XVII-XIX centuries, not the one of romantic novels lol, u know what i mean) is related to emo? well, i think so...i don't even know why i write this, maybe u just don't like reading...do you?

To me it could be quite similiar because Romantism was a revolution to the classical era where everything was based on reason and thought. Romantism and Emo focus on the emotion and not order. The one difference between them is that Romantics loved nature and the outdoors and I don't really see that in Emo music...

id disagree with this cos most emo people i no love the outdoors, i personally do i always walkm somewhere when i feel down or whatever reason and so do lots of my friends?
might be just round where i live thou:P

i agree with zealious coz i'm reading Werther by Goethe at the moment and he usually goes to hava a walk in the country when he's sad...

Well compare the works. True, no bands really sing about the relevance of outdoors and our reliance on society, but all the bands usually implement a lot about dreaming and stuff.

But i dont think the two are related.

How the **** is feudal Japan/China suppose to be related to emo? God this stuff is getting pathetic.

Feudal Japan? The Romanticism era was an time of Romantic writing in England. Frankenstein by Mary Shelly is Romantic.

Feudal japan/china was the "romantic" period in those countries. Baisically in Japan, the Japanese "renasaince" and reformation of the land. New forms of dialect and writing, arts, and romantic warfare.

Just as you could consider the medieval Europe as a romantic period. An extremely emotional and romantic period. KNights devoted themselves to the code of chivalry and there lords and fiamiley. The whole thing was very heroic and "romantic" (if you dont think about the black plague, great schism etc etc)

In my defense I am under the impression that the person intended this thread to be on the romantic areas of history as they wrote

Directly specifying that there not refering to romantic literature at all. So what is it evil? Clrify this big mess for us all.

The Romantic Era was specifically in Europe, mainly Britain, from the publishing of the Lyrical Balads to the Voter Reform Bill. Those are actual specific dates.

You do realize that there can be more than one country that underwent a romantic era? Just as there was more than one renaisance. Im looking things in a much broader spetrum than you.

i think what was said earlier about emo not being outdoors related isnt true becasue if you think about it, alot of 'emo' bands say they get their inspiration from experiences and sadness or whatever and alot of songs are based around pathetic fallacy (weather reflecting mood) so i think that outdoors n weather etc. has quite a bit to do with emo music

well the weather reflecting mood is gothic writing, not romantic.

its not gothic writing...its a proper english term so can be any kind of writing
