singing lessons...orrrrrr, practice if you'll be singing original songs then you're gonna have to like sing a C when you need to and then there are C# etc etc etc if you can't afford lessons I'm sure there are DVD's or something out there...if you play an instrument I guess it'd be easier cause your ears'll get used to it...:)

craigdavies 11-27-2004 05:32 PM

chears dude,
im takin up the bass guitar soon anmd i cant afford lessons hehe

jibber 11-27-2004 09:22 PM

ya, just lots of practice is really the only thing you can do. sing along in the car or wherever you have a chance and you'll improve.

craigdavies 11-28-2004 05:10 AM

scream. belt it. go all out. thats what real emo bands do and it sounds awesome. rarely can people in emo bands actually sing, but if you do what you do with conviction and you have tons of fun then it is awesome.

Brokenbutsmiling 11-28-2004 01:58 PM

From quite a bit of experience, singing in the car is quite different than actually singing in a band. The best thing you can do is join a choir, maybe your schools? It might not be that much fun, well, unless you get some friends to do it with you, but you will get much better at singing.

riseagainstrocks 11-28-2004 03:33 PM

Screaming is just something you gotta do. Its also very fun. As for singing -back in the day, I would hum to AFI. Davey has such a range it help to develop my voice. I can sing pretty good too. Just like strech your voice, to fit how you think the singer is doing that. Then you'll be ready. And voice lessons help a little.

jibber 11-28-2004 03:42 PM

ya, you can't be aftraid to scream or belt out the lyrics, but when you're doing that it sounds a lot better if you have a strong voice, so don't rely just on the screaming, keep working on it and practice it so that it souns like singing-screaming, not just hollering at the top of your lungs to mask a bad voice, which is unfortunately something a lot of singers do.

BorderHopper89 11-28-2004 04:18 PM

you cant be timid when singing...use all the "power" you have in your voice. try singing songs that have a note u have trouble hitting...thre more u prectice hitting that note, the easier it will become and it will beocme part of ur natural range. im no teacher/pro but im the lead singer for my band and i nkow from experience

craigdavies 11-29-2004 05:23 AM

yeah thanks guys, ill try all off your diffrent methods, im just gonna sing to everything i have ahha should be fun, im wriiting my own lyrics at the mo so ill give them a go,
i gotta work on my screaming a bit but yeah ill scream like a mad man haha!
chears guys

I agree, as I said you'll need to know when to sing what etc and just cause you can sing along doesn't mean you can hit notes like that I heard a C# is a hard note to hold...hm

craigdavies 11-29-2004 03:21 PM

ye i no dude but its the only thing i can do cos i cant afford lessons my mate is gonna give me some help thou:)

Thrice 11-29-2004 03:27 PM

everytime you are listening to whatever you listen to just sing with it and make sure you are in tune or when you go to the mic you will sound like every other emo band.

Brokenbutsmiling 11-29-2004 07:20 PM

Choir class will extend your range a great deal, as well as your breath capacity. Breathing exercises seem really stupid when you are doing them, but the work. It doesn't sound too great when you're taking a giant breath every 10 seconds. Wanna stretch your voice? Get Afraid to say this by 5 Days ahead, and try to keep up. That man sings higher than anything I've heard, even higher than Coheed and Cambria. But the great thing about that song is that it has ascending scales in thirds up to the highest notes, which will really make it more doable. Good luck, and have fun.

craigdavies 11-30-2004 09:35 AM
