In a recent topic you brought up Hoover. I had tried to get a hold of some mp3's a few years ago but couldn't find any. Flash to the present and I finally found a few songs and was blown away. I wish it wouldn't have taken so long. My question is really how does eveyone find the songs or sites to bands they listen to now? The problem I find is that some bands can be so obscure or have a name that is so common that it's near impossible to find through searching.

I use DC++ as peer to peer now and have had good luck finding what I want but still it's tough.

soulseek

my name is thisiceberg

ive got tons of that stuff and alot of great bands in that vein. check it out

Sweet Jane 12-29-2004 09:41 PM

yeah was just about to say soulseek is certainly the best i've used

Thrice 12-30-2004 05:16 PM

One time I downloaded music....

...then I realized its *** as balls.

David Frost 12-30-2004 05:43 PM

why is downloading music ***?

Greg 12-30-2004 05:46 PM

I'm new to this interweb lark. I tend to check the Rev website, Lamgoat etc for bands and read as much as i can. Now i can download the skies the limit.

ah i hate that. names like Oil and stuff. I just find people who have their music and have them send it to me.

www.purevolume.com is a good place with thousands of lesser known bands giving out their music for free downloads... you'll find some real gems there.

Jonah 12-30-2004 09:47 PM

soulseek is pretty decent, and it gets the job done.

BiteToBreakSkin 12-30-2004 11:45 PM

soulseek's alright.. limewire's good for dowloading .. not the greatest but it's my current preference.

riseagainstrocks 12-31-2004 08:13 PM

i google it...i'm so original.

^thats always smarter^

singingfish and the radio oh and borrow CDs from the library and burn them thier thats always good.

what if you cant get it in a record store?

online music is a great breakthrough for bands that are trying to be heard. websites like soulseek, hxcmp3.com, purevolume, and even myspace do nothing but help bands.

besides it is mostly bands that benefit from online music that are listened to online. and the bands that do loose money normally have enough of it not to worry about it.

I have a friend who works in the music industry. He says that if you were to buy a bands t shirt & download the album instead of just buying the album , that band actually makes more money from the t shirt than the album.

Of course you should. It's good to mention support since it's inevitably going to be brought up when I mentioned p2p. You should always support local, DIY, or indie music if you want the music that you like to continue.

Sounds what some labels might do to signed bands. I end up usually walking away with shirts and cd's though.

purevolume is the best place cause i discovered the greatest ska punk band thier and some cool screamo bands to.

Porphyria Plan 01-03-2005 09:18 AM

Purevolume is a good website.

Thanks for suggesting Soulseek. It has a better interface than DC++. Besides, the ability to make a wishlist would make any p2p great in my opinion.

devil_in_disguise_69 01-04-2005 01:59 AM

hi i use www.kazza.com.au its alright ive got thousands of songs of it

caughstealingstars 01-04-2005 02:28 PM

kazaa lately has been a total bust though...

Zealious 01-04-2005 05:41 PM

I have 44 full CDs up for Download on AIM if you're interested. And yes, I do have some pop rock for you newbies. PM me

riseagainstrocks 01-04-2005 07:05 PM

I think Thrice was referring to downloading whole albums as opposed to music the bands and labels put up. I download that and if I like it I look for the cd. If not in a store than I order it through the label.
