The new album is on spotify, and I dunno what to think. I like the energy, the drumming is fantastic, but the riffs aren't great. The riffs are pretty mediocre, and they use these little death-metal influenced micro-riffs at times that are so pretty out of place.

For those of you who don't know, Black Breath get their name from the Repulsion song, well, I'm assuming as much, and if they got it from somewhere else they suck, because this is basically a really, really updated version of what made Repulsion so fun. Punk, metal, all wonderfully mixed together... great aggression, and it's not played like this is '92.

I was also slightly under-whelmed, I don't know if they will ever release a better song than "Black Sin", so ****ing catchy. To supplement the slightly disappointing Black Breath release, I've just been listening to the other punk/metal hybrids on the Southern Lord label. Weekend Nachos, Martyrdod, Burning Love, and Enabler are all pretty damn good respectively.

I see Black Breath as a Metal band first and foremost and hear lots of crossover in their music. Heavy Breathing is a phenomenal album and was looking for their new album about half an hour ago on Spotify funnily enough but it wasn't on there.

Odd to see them in this sub forum TBH but then some see them as a Hardcore band influenced by old school metal too so it's open to debate.

I find that if Spotify doesn't have an album, typically MOG has it and vice versa.

I'm re-listening through Sentenced to Life , and I retract what I said earlier. The thicker production only seems to make the grooves hit even harder and they play so goddamn fast! Not as good as Heavy Breathing, but still a quality album in it's own right.

I enjoyed a lot of the riffs in STL, and I think I like it just as much or more than their first album and the EP. I would say they are a metal band first, but admittedly I have them labeled as hardcore in my iTunes library. I think they are broad enough that it doesn't really matter.
