Cap'n Jazz

I seriously couldn't find a Cap'n Jazz thread. Is that right? No forum is complete without one. They were the quintessential emo band. Someone says emo, I think Cap'n Jazz. Wtf.

"Basil's Kite" and "Puddle Splashers" are my favorite songs.

I do not know if I would go as far as to say they were quintessential... but they were a decent enough band.

I've always liked capn jazz. I like the child-like cadence of the vocals. Very upbeat catchy stuff, changed my perception of the genre.

I only ever listened to analalphabetapolotholgy, and it will probably remain like that, but i still enjoyed these guys quite a lot.

I would say they are one of the quintessential Emo bands. Highly influential in that they made the genre a little bit more accessible, employing a greater focus on pop-sensibility compared to the more arty, progressive-hardcore leanings of previous Emo acts. In that sense, they helped pave the way for the genre's incorporation into the realms of Indie Rock, much like Weezer did with Pinkerton.

Plus, the amount of bands that were spawned from its nucleus: American Football, Promise Ring, Owen, Joan of Arc... Some really good acts there.

I love Cap'n Jazz, by the way.

I like them more than most Emo bands I have heard, but I wouldn't say I am in love with them. Then again, I have only listened to any of their songs once, maybe twice. I am sure they would grow on me, but I am far too unconcerned about liking this band that I will probably never bother getting into them.

Little League is a great song, heard it in a compilation a while ago. Only heard a few others but they're also good, for some reason never got round to the album though.

I like a couple songs but all in all the Kinsella's rub me the wrong way. Just by the nature of 90s emo. There were so many bands that were forgotten that the fact that everything these guys were get immortalized is just weird. I think this project was exceptionally important in shaping the scene.

Friction and Lovesick are kind of in the same vein as Cap'n Jazz. I think more so than a lot of indiemo bands.

There are some songs which i think are really catchy, namely Little League, but for the most part i agree. I think maybe part of the problem is that we've all got their Analphabetapolothology discography CD, i think a lot of their stuff is best listened to in shorter bursts (like an EP or their two million comp tracks). I always enjoyed reading through the lyrics, though.

I never really liked Friction or Lovesick, I really like American Football, though.
