How did you discover emo music?

I started listening to the 90s Chicago Indie Scene (Cap'n Jazz in particular) and from there I branched off to Joan of Arc. At the time I thought Joan of Arc was emo due to its image under jade tree records. From there I stumbled across Soulseek where someone offered me a chance to listen some Indian Summer tracks, and then I bought a Saetia Retrospective CD. It took off from there.

How about you?

my friend kendra got me into the all-american rejects in about the seventh grade, then yellowcard, then thursday, now saetia, the used, mcr, and stuff like that. the only 'real' emo band is saetia, i know. but the others are still nu-emo. i dont care.

Or the end of emo, depending.

I got shown emo by this kid at school who kinda takes emo as a religion... Its sad, but hes a cool kid...

^it really doesn't matter. moderators:
1. are mature and dont flame other people's opinions all the time,
2. they dont try to get people to hate them,
3. don't act like jackasses,
4. they don't post in threads about subjects they don't like,
5. and if they do post in them, they don't throw in their two-sense.

you dont accomplish any of these.

What he does do however is recommend good ass bands that you and everyone else in this forum should check out. Zealious and Frost so far have mentioned tons of good music.
1. Look for it
2. Listen to it
3. Enjoy

I wanted to know if I was correctly insulting a guy when I called him an emo-kid.
I later found out I should have called him a post-emo kid.
I wanted to find out what was before this post phase.
I'm beginning to listen to Zealious more to hear about emo bands.
I'm checking out Rites of Spring, Moss Icon, Heroin, La Quiete, The Pine, and Angel Hair, although it's hard because the older bands broke up and I can't get a lot of their stuff.
