Emo violence and other emo sub genres...

what makes "skramz" so interesting to me the diversity within the genre. Don't get me wrong I love most music punk related but a lot of the bands tend to follow formulas or try to emulate other bands. Of coarse this occurs in screamo, still the bands within the genre sometimes sound so radically different. City of caterpillar and funeral diner have longer songs with build ups and epic delivery. They are not as chaotic as say angel hair but use the post rock elements to create a unique intensity. Pg.99 and orchid sound closer to traditional hardcore with some grind core/ powerviolence trends. I suppose that is where the term emo-violence came from. Raein and daitro can be very melodic and their music has a very somber element to it yet still beautiful. I have not been as impressed with more recent American screamo. The saddest landscape being the expection, but they have been around for awhile.

Anyway...

I am curious what most of you find most appealing about screamo vs other punk genres. Or what you screamo sub genres you like the most, Emoviolence, post rock math rock influenced? Newer stuff like beau navire? Golden age stuff? Funeral diner, orchid, Jerome's dream, circle takes the square, Joshua fit for battle? Or older? Angel hair, heroin, moss icon, mohinder? And maybe what your top 3 favorite skramz bands.

Personally my favorite screamo is the late 90s to mid 2000s stuff.

I find it really cute that in two years skramz went from a joke term to the preferred one. I guess people got tired of trying to take their genre back from AP.

I've been pretty stoked seeing emo make an actual resurgence. Touche Amore and the Saddest Landscape have actually made a name for themselves. If you'd ask me a couple years ago if a screamo band would see mild success in the punk scene I would've laughed.

Anyway, I'm a sucker for France and the band I'm most excited about is Death Mercedes. Ex-Amanda Woodward members!
