Maybe if you'd help you hoe & I know alot, more then you give me credit for anyway. I just don't know enough about grindcore and a few others.

I vote you take ETID off the metalcore list. They're more like...rock and roll with a "breakdown" or 2. Especially with the new cd.

I agree with your classifications. However, I think nowadays 'hardcore', as a genre, has transformed into something else. The handful of bands I have tagged as 'hardcore' in WMP are Stretch Arm Strong, Walls of Jericho, Dead Hearts, and Converge. I don't think these bands have enough 'metal' in their songs, if you will, to be justified as metalcore, so I tag them 'hardcore'. They're also certainly not tough guy, tech, grind, prog, or post-hardcore, so... who knows.

Also, 'hardcore' in its original form is pretty rare nowadays.

(I know you'll probably scoff at my labeling of Converge as 'hardcore', but they seem too noisy and dissonant to be 'metalcore', to me anyway.) :)

Criticism appreciated.

Trauma 10-08-2006 10:32 PM

I like you :)

enemyat_thesix 10-09-2006 06:17 AM

Woo! :)

tjtech12 01-08-2007 07:22 AM

am i ignorant in suggesting that you add a mention about "Melodic Hardcore" like 88 Fingers Louie, Kid Dynamite, Lifetime, Paint It Black, and Rise against? those bands definetly aren't emo. its a very hard, heavy, punk based sound. and unlike many hardcore bands, actually melodic. don't curse me out, but think its worth mentioning.

tjtech12 01-08-2007 07:23 AM

and is Bane considered Posi-core? not that it matters, but yeah.

xcult_classicx 01-08-2007 07:50 AM

what about I Hate You?

~nutshell~ 01-08-2007 09:55 AM

I always thought post-hardcore was later than the early to mid eighties....??

yodaisagungan 01-29-2007 12:16 PM

where does fall of troy fit into all this?

A_Perfect_Sonnet 01-29-2007 01:36 PM

Spazzy post-hardcore with progressive elements.

yodaisagungan 01-29-2007 01:46 PM

any other bands you would recommend for a fall of troy fan?

Trauma 01-29-2007 01:50 PM

The Blood Brothers, Circle Takes the Square, Fear Before the March of Flames, Circa Survive, Saosin, Nu-Underoath, HORSE the Band.

Um, the good bands on there (except the blood brothers) aren't anything like the fall of troy...

The Blood Brothers, The Red Light Sting, Rush, At The Drive-In, The Sound Of Silence, then if theres some other post-hardcore bands like Million Dead and Hundred reasons if you like At The Drive-In, I mainly listed them because the Fall Of Troy has been described as a combination (may have said their biggest influences are?) At The Drive-In and Rush.

Also you should check out Circle Takes The Square anyway.

Trauma 01-29-2007 02:37 PM

Yeah, they sound exactly Rush, every detail of their sound.
I agree with At The Drive-In, but I wouldn't say they're similar to Million Dead.
They're much more akin to acts like FBTMOF, HTB, and CTTS with elements of pop rock like Saosin.

Edit: I'm talking Doppleganger.
Their more spazzy old stuff is a little closer to what you described, although not completely.

sleepy jack 01-29-2007 02:41 PM

I can see that actually, but do we really want him listening to Saosin?

Plus I wasn't talking about the exact sound but they are pretty similar. They both belong to that branch of post-hardcore, that they belong to.

yodaisagungan 01-29-2007 03:52 PM

please don't make me listen to saosin. my ears hurt already.

Loser 01-29-2007 04:18 PM

Saosin isn't that bad what is it about them that people just hate? They have talented band members, Great lyrics it all gels well together.

swim 01-29-2007 04:20 PM

They aren't talented and the lyrics arent great.

Loser 01-29-2007 04:21 PM

It might be cove because after alot of people loved them..Now it's like everyone dowsn't like them anymore, so it might be cove...Just a guess.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 01-29-2007 07:57 PM

Like I said, Anthony Green wasn't good while he was in Saosin, because Saosin is not good. It doesn't matter what members they have.

No it doesn't.
You reserving tickets for Taste of Chaos and proclaiming Chiodos will be there shows that it doesn't "gel".

Who? Saosin? Or The Fall of Troy?
I don't understand how people can enjoy either of those bands...

I'm not gunna argue about the lyrics being great..but you're a fool if you think they have no talen...Anthony Green is always gunna be very talented and the drumming on the Saosin EP and Translating the name is incredible. I dont know what to think of Cove however..He's nothing special.

swim 01-30-2007 05:09 AM

When I think of talented and the post-hardcore and emo scene I think of Justin Graves and not too much more. Not because everyone else is shit. Just when you look at music as a whole a lot of these people aren't that impressive. Which is fine. I really am not one for technical greatness. But bands like Saosin aren't pushing the envelope in any sense.

I don't like Saosin at all, but I will definitely stand up for TFOT. That music is great, really fun stuff, good musicians. I just don't care for the vocals too much.

The homocide dectective?

swim 01-30-2007 02:03 PM

Of course. He's got mad drum skills in some band named after and Australian chef, I forget.

xcult_classicx 01-30-2007 08:09 PM

i don't think Neil Perry was named after an australian chef, i think they got their name from the character in Dead Poets Society who killed himself with his father's revolver.

by the end of the movie, at this finishing school, they said something like, "let us mourn for the loss of mr. neil perry"

I think his guitarwork is boring and repetitive... and the vocals are pretty hideous, too.

His guitar work is masterful, just because he's singing vocals that are spazzy as hell while doing it.
That's why.
He's also got a great scream, and listens to CTTS.
What more dude, what more?

Why because Thom organizes unorthodox riffs that flow together beautifully and fit with the music without being wanking and he has sick range?

A_Perfect_Sonnet 01-30-2007 11:20 PM

Thomas is a badass vocalist.
