Screamo You Should Know Because it Rules

I have endless material for this

The Khayembii Communique

One of the most top notch bands of the screamo underground IMO. Nothing overly special but their execution is just great. Really catchy songs with pop-like sensibilities and kick ass bass playing. They have a discography comp you oughtta check, I'd call it essential. Very memorable stuff.

Zhanteimi 12-08-2016 11:42 PM

I hate that Satanic shit. Kill yourself.

Mondo Bungle 12-08-2016 11:43 PM

I dunno if I know about any satanic screamo bands. Could be cool though

Zhanteimi 12-08-2016 11:54 PM

Lemme know if you find any.

The Batlord 12-09-2016 03:25 AM

Mordwyr has become way too obvious a troll. Turn it down a notch, bro. Real trolls operate in secret.

Zhanteimi 12-09-2016 03:26 AM

True dat.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 12-09-2016 07:59 AM

i've been waiting so long for this thread to exist, i need more skramz in my life.

Mondo Bungle 12-09-2016 02:09 PM

well you can have all of it that I know

That's a link to their self titled but all their releases are free on their bandcamp too. German metallic screamo stuff, probably one of the heaviest bands I know. We all know how powerviolency screamo is by now, but this band is brutal.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? - Snapshot Lamento

Well I should probably let everyone know now that this thread will have no shortage of ridiculous band names, whether really long full sentences or oblique references or just both^^^. Anyway, this is some more euroskramz, from Luxembourg this time around. Not an especially brutal band like the first one, but it's still pretty quality post hardcorey screamo, very well arranged and produced for a memorable bit of jams.

Well I'm already in it this far so I'm just gonna go ahead and dedicate this post to European screamo, and there will assuredly be much more of that. From Germany again. Danse Macabre play cut and dry screamo that once again just comes out great. Honestly, I've never heard any bands playing screamo that sounded "bad". Your basic melodic kinda epic guitar work and tone, and a perfect blend of heaviness and twinklyness. Loud/soft dynamic in full swing.

The Death of Anna Karina - New Liberalistic pleasures

Italy. This is actually pretty cool/original. It's light screamo/post hardcore, with a touch of synthpunk to boot. Not for when you want brutality but these guys are really catchy and cool. It's almost like mathcore in it's eccentricity.

Battle of Wolf 359 - The Death of Affect

This has been a favorite for a long time. I saw the name and thought it was so cool (didn't know it was a Star Trek reference though). Standard screamo, loud, soft screechy, epic. But they have two of my favorite skramz songs of all time. Not here, this is their sole full length, but on a split with Kaddish. They are just great:

The Death of Affect has two tracks with different titles that are literally the same song, that's always kinda bothered me.

Corea - los peores 7km de mi vida

More original stuff, now from Spain. This band brings back the ripping heaviness, but combining non-lame post rock stuff and some experimentation and noise rock guitar. Super raw vocals. Criminally underrated since it's so top notch.

Mondo Bungle 12-10-2016 08:11 PM

Ravachol are one of the most memorable and catchy bands that played this relatively standard twangy and melodic screamo. Each track delivers a heavy dose of passion, energy, and perfectly executed musicality. And they have one if my favorite vocalists in the genre.

Ravachol broke up but went on to form another great screamo act here. Their earliest output continued with solid Ravachol style stuff, but with this full length they took that further with a wash of experimental soundscapes. So here we have it, psychedelic screamo.

1905 - Voice

I was all stoked to come in here and talk about what I thought would be considered a screamo masterpiece, and then found all kinds of negative reception for this. But not from me, I still think this is perfect and an absolutely must hear in this whole world of music.

This is packed full of extreme emotion and even more extreme musical ideas. A lot of eclectic influences come together in a style that I think is kinda hard to describe. It's progressive, political, unique, and a great structure of musicality.

Mondo Bungle 12-15-2016 07:19 PM

^can I help you

I Would Set Myself on Fire For You - Believes in Patterns

More progressive screamo but much much further than 1905, and even Circle Takes the Square. This album brings in elements from jazz and folk, and features a wide array of different instruments not normally found within the genre. If you ever wanted CTTS to experiment with more styles then this is for you

This is ****ing excellent.

What do you think about I Would Set Myself on Fire for You^^^^^^^

Mondo Bungle 12-26-2016 06:50 PM

Zann

Heavy screamo/metalcore from germany that shred like it's going out of style. For anyone enjoying the metallic artists in here so far.

They're alright. Not a huge fan of their vocalist

Mondo Bungle 12-30-2016 05:29 PM

I will always hold these 27 minutes of music in such high regard. It's downright criminal that these bands get so little praise in the grand scheme of things. They should be put on a pedestal if anything. Navio Forge, Union of Uranus, One Eyed God Prophecy and etc, are bands that paved the way for all the others, and they swim by relatively unnoticed and underground. It could be that they often have very small discographies, and their one release might not be brought up as much as it should.

I name dropped two others up there aside from Navio Forge, but those bands were significantly more brutal and borderline indistinguishable from extreme metal (you know why? Cuz it mother****ing is extreme metal. Hold tight for next posts)... But Navio held tightly to the notable early post hardcore roots of their music, which I'd say might even make them more important in shaping screamo of that type. But there's no mistaking it, this album is heavy, soul smashing, passionate, and otherwise hard rocking in every way imaginable. I wouldn't call this one of the metal sounding ones, but that does nothing that could take away its brutality.

Frownland 12-30-2016 05:35 PM

^Tight.

Mondo Bungle 12-30-2016 08:13 PM

One Eyed God Prophecy were a badass sludge met- ahem, emo band that also helped form this genre. They are just really heavy and raw in a way reminiscent of Aske by Burzum. Sometimes I think it's weird how these early bands were so brutal.

We got riffs and killing. It might possibly even be a better suggestion for people who like Dystopia rather than Heroin, but it falls in between. But, I can't imagine people saying it's not metal in any way, when it plays like a blackened sludge album by way of emo. One of the heaviest.

Mondo Bungle 01-07-2017 05:31 PM

The touch of melody blended into brutal powerviolence makes a special thing and Textbook Traitors will let you know that. This is breakneck screamo, riddled with blast beats. But of course they slow it down and sappy it up. It's just skramz protocol.

Mondo Bungle 07-03-2017 07:44 PM

Maybe the best riffs in the genre

Mondo Bungle 07-11-2017 06:54 PM

heavy brutal rockness

SuperCoolGuy 01-21-2018 11:44 PM

In/Humanity rules hard. their first lp admittedly leans a bit more towards standard hardcore and powerviolence, but their second one History Behind the Mystery is a classic. also they coined the term "emoviolence", a tag that always gets mixed up with screamo for some reason.

also bumping an old thread because lol

seriously some of the best to come in a while. They know their way around a guitar

Crowquill 09-26-2018 12:18 PM

^This is awesome. A lot of great **** posted in here also, like textbook traitors, and in/humanity. Really glad to see something alive in this subforum again.

No Hay Banda 09-28-2018 12:16 AM

Yo that In/Humanity record is tight.

Here's some Saetia-ish Russian screamo from this year, some of my favorite.

bradsonemanband 11-30-2018 09:17 AM

You guys would probably be into the band 20 Stories Falling. They have Armor For Sleep kinda vibes, but with more screaming and more ambient/shoegazy kinda stuff.
