Modest Mouse and The Postal Service are indie rock bands....with emo influences. Ugh, I'm not a big fan on many of the bands you listed...Mars Volta is good...

Default good emo

if you want emo from the roots up check out rites of spring. Ian Mackaye band, I believe. If you want some of the more melodic stuff check out fugazi. A lot of the bands listed were either indie/rock or pop-punk. Some good post-emo and emocore bands to check for are the promise ring, joan of arc, cap'n jazz, braid, rainer maria...That stuff is really "underground" and can be somewhat of an acquired taste. Early November, Coheed and Cambria, Thursday might be more your speed. Also, if you really want tips on dressing emo, mostly wear too small tees with a retro feel, wicked tight pants, usually just jeans, cool belts with clunky buckles, chuck taylors and lots of bracelets. Thats how most people attempt to look emo....not really that hard, although it might take some practice before you get out of the looking stupid stage. i know most people bash emo kids and people who try to look emo, but everybody looks like somebody else anyway. after all, everybody in this thread is wearing a shirt that somebody else owns, right? they all have a style somewhere along the line, and emo just happens to be ours...yup. also check out armor for sleep, because they rock. coheed and cambria.

agreed with the rufio guitars. also the dressing. why conform to a particular style or stereotype? wear what you think is cool or looks good, and that will most probably reflect your style anyway

xcollapseofmyheartx:

first of all you nailed that screen name itself right off dobi.nu (find it here under boys AOL screen name.)

Also, you can just wake up one day and decide to be emo. I personally detest when people limit their own self expression by saying their going to dress this way and only listen to this music. Just listen to whatever makes you feel happy, whatever turns you ear and makes you think.. Sweet. Dont conform to some sick corporate pigs idea of "emo" or "punk". Because as underground and unique you think these trends are, they're being waved in front of your face and then shoved down your throat by the media. Instead, take your brain out of that little box its been living in, give it some fresh air, and do something because you WANT to do it. Not because your TOLD to do it.

Shesh.. okay rant over but seriously, listen to and dress like an individual, not a clone.

This wasnt directed AT you xcollapseofmyheartx, but take heed anyway.
