Wow, this thread has been active for over 6 years and I started it! That's feels cool in a lame way. And to the person two posts back, I agree that Room On Fire was better than Is This It? Both good albums though IMHO.

Everything before First Impressions of Earth was brilliant, and after that bitter disappointment I can't even make myself listen to the latest release.

Angles is hardly amazing. Just another one trick pony of an indie band trying to re-capture the 80's new wave.

Except for the fact that this album is actually amazing.

in the context of modern mainstream music, it may seem amazing. In the context of music as a whole, it is mediocre new wave worship, done better by many bands in history.

It is not amazing, it is boring and average at best.

So you're judging it on the basis of what other bands could do instead of judging it on the basis of what The Strokes can do?

well The Strokes have always been good on copping their sound from much superior products. Never a band known for originality. Their first album was good in a throwback to the garage type of way, they were a good part of the third wave garage rock trend, and made a fun album that made up for it's shortcomings of never being original.

I am not that interested in what The Strokes can do, but their first album was an indication that they can take something tried and true, and at least make it fun to listen to.

But after that they just went down more and more... getting more boring as they go. Angles is just a rock bottom product of mediocrity.

I am sure even by their standards they are able to do much better, just a shame they never will.

People need to stop sucking the dick of a band whose shelf life was limited, and are past their expiration date.

Amazing would be unique, different, a spin on something... originality. But as I say, that was never The Strokes call to fame.
