The Legendary Pink Dots

Anyone out there like Legendary Pink Dots?

Eltiraaz 05-25-2004 03:03 PM

Can't Say I've heard of them.

Trickster 05-29-2004 05:03 PM

Oh, well I was trying to see if anyone was going to the Phoenix show.

Seriously , this lot have been around over 25 years & not one person has started a thread on them since this one from 2 and a half years ago?

I got their Your Children Placate You From Premature Graves album today & it`s f*cking awesome , part space rock , part jazz , part post rock, part psychadelia.

How in the hell did all you lot miss these guys?

sleepy jack 12-14-2006 12:00 PM

Urban can you upload something?

I feel a need to check out new stufff.

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-14-2006 12:07 PM

Sure, i`ll upload something tonight.

I`ve been looking around for months online but there`s nothing anywhere.Even their albums are going for small fortunes on amazon & ebay.

You`d think a band with 40 odd albums would be easier to find stuff :(

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-15-2006 06:58 PM

It`s just an ordinary zip file

cardboard adolescent 12-15-2006 07:38 PM

cardboard adolescent 12-15-2006 09:23 PM

Bump....

:(

seriously.....in a music forum full of intelligent, interesting people with great music taste and a band with well over 50 releases (6 last year) has only a handful of responses from a thread made over 10 years ago!

and i'd like to point out that nobody in the posts above me still post here....except Urban who seems to float in and out.....and he's the one who bumped this 8 years ago for a two day conversation!

so

The Legendary Pink Dots are an experimental psychedelic band who also play on the darker side of pop music....the brainchild of Edward Ka-Spel who would be like Syd Barrett's evil fucked up twin

in the 50 albums they've released since 1981 very few sound completely alike

i woke up this morning and went on a bit of binge with them.....6 or so albums in a row....which brought me back to the mid 90s when i was learning about Actionism, LSD, Throbbing Gristle, and general misanthropy

i honestly blame The Legendary Pink Dots for the fact that i now have psychotic reactions when under the influence of any psychedelic....seriously great and nightmarish times

these guys are such a major influence....it just baffles me brain that there seems to be absolutely no love for them here

maybe this thread should be moved to the experimental area....where it will be ignored with other artist of the same value :)

anyways if your interested i highly suggest starting with....

Brighter Now
Asylum
The Tower
The Legendary Pink Box

God I love to hate you :)

hate paper doll 06-24-2014 05:36 PM

To be honest I've never listened to them all that much. This changes today.

Oh totally. Thanks!

bob. 06-24-2014 06:31 PM

ditto

i have their discography up till last year.....they've released 8 albums since then :)

i'd say The Pink Box is an absolute best place to start....but my personal favorite album is Brighter Now

Yeah I knew a few kids on drugs in the 90s who worshipped this band. Even when I was taking lots of strong hallucinogens I don't recall being excited by The Legendary Pink Dots. Maybe I'll try them again, the band not the drugs probably

Me too! And they were all hardcore goths, since I wasn't I think I just sort of dismissed the band. It's always good to give things a second chance though.

bob. 06-24-2014 11:48 PM

or maybe i was a hardcore goth on drugs....and this is all nostalgia :)

i'll say both....but they really have a great staying power

New release:

The Sympathy Portal by Edward Ka-Spel

https://edwardka-spel.bandcamp.com/a...ympathy-portal

released February 1, 2021

Jangly Mark 06-28-2023 01:18 PM

A good starting place for me would be "I Love You In Your Tragic Beauty".....kind of indie/folk/psych......reminds me a little of early Momus...
