I need more bands!!!
Hey, I just joined this site and the first thing I want to do here is to get into some new bands. Im generally accepting to most any bands, except those screamy weak guitar bands that whine about stupid stuff. I have a lot of music so dont give me one that is that well known or something. I just need something new and intersting. HELP PLEASE. |
Give an example of the stuff you like now. So we've got something to work with.

Right mate don't know if you'll have listened to them before but The Libertines, even though split up, are quality. Babyshambles are superb as well, Down in Albion is a brilliant album that anyone could listen to. Also, why has no-one mentioned The Strokes yet? They are simply amazing. There's a few suggestions for you!

death cab for cutie is a great band to train your ear to the "sound" of indie rock, you'll probably appreciate more obscure sounding bands after you've listened to Deathcab

and just in case you or anybody else didn't guess, my above post was my dumb idea of a joke, since death cab for cutie is more popular than herpes now. |
Pavement is way better. I sense your defending your indie pride, do you really care that more than just the people you know listen to them? Their new stuff is a little weak but I felt someone asking about something so obscure and eclectic as indie would proably appreaciate a more mainstream band to get into it. It would be a better convincer that indie music is really good. Besides most indie bands dont sound like Pavement anymore (im listening to brighten the corners now).

i just found pavement, personally, to be a better fit for the statement you made. sure, they have their unique style that is rarely or ever replicated, but in their approach to music, i would say it's very "indie". i wouldn't say the same about death cab for cutie, at least not based on their latest cd, which is what the majority of people will think of or download when they hear the name. i don't find the approach "indie" and it rarely "rocks", so i wouldn't call it a good ear-trainer for "indie rock". i just see it as listenable, melodic pop. and i was just listening to brighten the corners earlier today. groovy, no? |

didn't know they were ever 'rated' tbh. I thought they were quite underground...
we talking about same band btw? http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p...0:hz6dtr59kl4x |
Op Ivy was really under the radar until those two members formed rancid. Then people desided to listen to their old band too. The singer of Op Ivy (i cant remember his name now) formed another ska band after they broke up called Common Rider, which is really good too.

say anything is pop indie, but still indie none the less. also for some older punk/ indie pop generation x is ecellent "kiss me deadly for sure"
anyone who has ever seen slc punk, which you should have to watch, it's the song heroin bob brings steve-o as kids. awesome song, the rest of their stuff is alot more punk tho. |
"weak guitar bands that whine about stupid stuff"
That's tough man. I see that you have narrowed it down a bit, but I would have personally shuffled Oasis, Modest Mouse, and most definitely Billy Coragen in that direction. But judging from your taste... maybe check out a tune called 'Little Flower' by Secret Archives of the Vatican. The rest of their jams are a far stretch but great for the background. |

had no idea they went on to rancid... but i lost touch with that kind of music (and never cared for rancid)... |
