First Impressions Of First Impressions Of Earth

And the MB award for most obvious thread title pun goes to....

Well youve prolly all got yer new Strokes kicks by now, so what's the feeling on it? Is Jules any fun when he's not mumbling stuff about Kim Deals Porno Pot but borderline-emo-metally stuff instead? You Only Live Once better than Someday? Electricityscape the new Reptilia?

Or were they just shiiiiite all along?

Get yer mitts out ladies and gents, last call of the year

Expletive Deleted 12-22-2005 07:11 PM

I think I'll just keep pretending they only ever released on album. First Impressions of Earth sucks.

Sneer 12-24-2005 12:25 PM

never been a huge strokes fan, thought their first album was promising and rhe second bar reptilia was crap in my opinion. But... first impressions of earth is absolutely good, more streamlined, diverse and assured then their two previous releases. such songs as heart in a cage, you only live once and on the other side EASILY eclipse anything else they've done prior.
overall- 8/10

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-30-2005 11:48 AM

I saw them TV a couple of weeks ago.

I swear their lead singer is the most punchable guy in rock since that tosser from weezer.

On the Other Side---amazing. Maybe not an incredibly talented band, but great for warming up parties. Drink Some More!

TrampInaTux 03-15-2006 04:05 PM

I've heard like half of their songs on this album properly, so I can't judge yet. But it looks promising. Not the best I've heard, but okay.

right-track 03-15-2006 04:15 PM

Has its moments with some good tracks, but leaves me with the feeling that I've heard it all before.

TheBig3 03-20-2006 08:19 PM

You know im of the opinion that they have about five good songs, but rack up a 6th with "heart in a cage" because I can't get enough of that song.

Not so huge at that band but I can say that I used to like their songs but that
is about all I can say.

TrampInaTux 03-21-2006 01:48 PM

It's got a fantastic 3 track opening, and You Only Live Once is going to be stuck in my head for a while now.

Urban Hat€monger ? 03-21-2006 01:51 PM

I`ve gone 3 whole months without having heard a single song off it :D

right-track 03-21-2006 01:53 PM

I was stupid enough to buy it before I heard a single track. :(

Not all bad though.

TrampInaTux 03-21-2006 01:54 PM

Well I don't suggest buying the album because it's not brilliant, but I would tell you to download the first three songs-

You Only Live Once
Heart In A Cage
Juicebox

Great songs.

Lasting Impressions Of...

'Heart In A Cage' is one of the better album tracks, but it don't half remind me of Iggy's 'The Passenger' in parts.
The intro to 'You only live Once' starts in a similar way to 'Under Pressure' then turns into 'China Girl'.
The bassline to 'Juicebox' I've heard somewhere before, just can't put my finger on it yet.
The chorus to 'Razorblade' reminds me of Kate Bush's 'Wuthering Heights'
eg; "It's me I'm Kathy, I've come home" etc :( (too close for comfort.)

The lead singer (can't even bear to mention him by name) sings throughout 'Ask Me Anything' like he's bored with his own voice.
"Iv'e got nothing to say, Iv'e got nothing to say" drone, drone.

I have...shut the fuck up!

This band is seriously overated

First Impressions sucks. Their two first albums were masterpieces, and their newest one has a couple of great songs. And then there's First Impressions of the Earth.

JakeATLBraves24 11-12-2012 07:51 PM

I will admit that I am a Strokes fan boy, but First Impressions is not a bad album by any means. I would say that it's their 3rd best album, behind Is This It and Room On Fire, ahead of Angles. You Only Live Once is The Strokes' best song to date. Juicebox is a bad ass track with a killer bass line. Ize of the World has Julian's best lyrics. This album got a lot of criticism for being too long, and I would agree with that, but the only song I would've cut would have been Killing Lies. It is much different from their first 2 albums, but give it a chance and it will really grow on you.

I quite like Razorblade to be fair, other than that it's pretty gash.

Urban Hat€monger ? 11-13-2012 10:00 AM

Why all the sudden interest in this 7 year old heap of junk?
