Somethings are just universal...It's human nature really. You say these artists do it because they enjoy, which is true for the most part, but it's also true that the vast majority of them wouldn't turn down a multi-million EMI contract.

That wasn't the point you were originally making. The point you were originally making was all indie bands wish they made sellable music and that most just weren't good enough to do that so they stuck to playing indie.

ProggyMan 09-27-2007 12:02 AM

No, actually this was:

Indie is absolutely a genre. It's a kind of music you listen to that has not been presented to you via one of the majors. Unless you're saying genres can only be created by the majors.

Every genre has sub genres - but so long as the kids 'get' what the word 'indie' actually means, that should eliminate any snobbery that sadly accompanies the word.
I refuted that.

I refuted that.

Not even two pages ago you agreed (what I posted) was the point you made.

Okay then, let me fix it.

So basically what you're saying is indie music can be summed up in two categories.

1. Bands that want to be a pop band
2. Bands that aren't talented enough to be a pop band

(same thing I stated in my post before this)

Also, if you're going to state your 'original' point actually you know, post YOUR point don't just say you refuted it. All you did was post "So is 'major' a genre to?"

ProggyMan 09-27-2007 12:20 AM

No, it segwayed into a conversation about whether or not Indie bands would like to be mainstream. Related, but different.

First off, learn how to spell, next, it doesn't matter if they suck, they are still successful, which is what Proggyman pointed out, he said nothing about them being talented or not talented.

The fact that you can make immature insults adds nothing to your argument. I'm also fairly certain that Proggyman doesn't like Maroon 5.
