Thinking Fellers Union Local #282
They're like Sonic Youth, only better. I really don't think there's much I can say about these guys, you sort of have to go find out for yourselves. Download whatever you can find and hopefully you'll get lucky, they have a lot of "filler" which is more like random sound collages/experiments, so if something is boring or not really a "song," don't be put off by it.
Really, just get whatever you can find, it's all good. |
No responses? :(
Great band. |
Yeah, this band is cool. I've only really heard Strangers from the Universe though. It's hard to find their albums.
|
I can up Mother of All Saints, Funeral Pudding, and Wormed, by Leonard. I have Lovelyville too, but only on LP. They're all great.
|
Any of those would be fantastic, buddy.

Hell yeah, man.
Cheers. |
Lol I was just searching for some albums by this band on google and this thread was the first search result. The uploads still work so far, thanks for uploading them!
Edit: Funeral Pudding doesn't work, but the other two do, and that's a good start. |
I've been listening to Thinking Fellers more and more lately. They kind of sound like Sonic Youth in a way, with the zaniness of Captain Beefheart thrown in.
ps. If anyone wants "Lovelyville" pm me. |
I've been listening to this band lately and they're good, very good. I only listened to 'Lovelyville' for now, not sure what to check next. 'Strangers from the Universe', maybe?
Anyway 2x4s is a favorite for now, but they're all good, even those filler 'songs'. It's really a bummer that there are only 10 responses in this thread all the way from 2006. Maybe people don't know about them like how I didn't know all these years. The name was familiar, but never really bothered to check them out. And how glad I am that I did. |
They're one of those bands I think 'I really should get some of their stuff' and then 5 minutes later see something else & get that instead.
|
^I know what you mean. I have that same problem with some bands. But in this case, only their name was familiar, I didn't even have an idea what kind of music they play. For all I know they could have been some hardcore punk band. That was until they began popping up as a recommendation on last.fm, I mean really persistently. And so I checked them out. So far, last.fm recommendations have been great for me.

Maybe because it was the first I heard, but that album is my favourite. I'm a huge fan of this band now, largely thanks to the wonderful Cardboard's links back in 2007. Lovelyville, Mother Of All Saints and Strangers From The Universe are their best albums, I highly recommend them all though! |
^Thanks Gravity! One can always count on your recommendations. Yeah, I saw that 'Strangers from the Universe' and 'Lovelyville' have the best rating on allmusic. Not that it means much, but it can be a guideline sometimes. That's why I checked Lovelyville first and been meaning to get the other one next.
|
Allmusic is usually a decent enough guideline, although their rating for Mother Of All Saints is far too low I reckon. But yeah, I've used Allmusic for a long time for the purposes of deciding which album to check out first by a band I'm interested in, it's a handy wee resource.
|
Don't think I've heard of them, sounds interesting, I will check 'em out.
|
They're back together for ATP, one gig apparently.
Big Boi (Outkast), Terry Riley, Thinking Fellers head new Animal Collective ATP additions - All Tomorrow's Parties Would absolutely LOVE to see this band live. Can't afford to go to ATP though, and it's not the best lineup anyway. Let's hope they tour! |
i don't understand why the ATP festival has only done one show on the west coast of America....a$$holes :(

The thing that annoys me about ATP is that they hold their events in May and December usually - which is the two months of the year in which I have exams at university. That said, if the line-up is good enough, then sometimes I'm unable to stop myself going. Like when the Jesus Lizard reformed, etc. **** exams when you could be watchin' David Yow live :) |
Great band. I have Lovelyville and Strangers from the Universe - both are v. good. I remember when I first heard Four O'Clocker 2 - that song is killer.
I wouldnt say they're as good as sonic youth though lol. |
Does anyone know anything about the connection between this band and Caroliner?

Very good news on the Thinking Fellers front. There is a vinyl reissue campaign of their albums and EPs, beginning with Strangers From The Universe and Admonishing The Bishops. Also, the band has a new Instagram page and digital offerings of their music on their Bandcamp page. More details at www.tful282.com
While I hope all of this activity might mean a reunion tour in the not too distant future, I'm not counting on it. I do hope they make some $ from these endeavors and maybe make some new fans as well. |
Thinking Fellers did two reunion gigs last month in Portland, Oregon. Brian Hageman, Mark Davies, Hugh Swarts, and Jay Paget were all present. Bassist Anne Eickelberg was unable to be there so there was a subsitute bassist. Here's the August 10 gig:
