3 splendid 80s bands.

seeing as i feel theres a bit of an "anti-80s" culture going on around here, we should expose the positives of this decade. so, your 3 favourite bands of the 80s? (i dont want any mention of the smiths, the cure, the pixies or talking heads, we know their good)

these are 3 of my favourite 80s bands.

the cramps- a band that prized itself on making simple yet irresistable riffs, what they lacked in musical ability they more then made up for in edge and raw energy. spooky, twisted melancholy with a enlightening, humorous twist. psychobilly at its finest. for evidence start with the compilation "off the bone".

Gun Club- a band criminally underrated, nobodyy quite conveyed the sleaze of blues like this british band. a great fusion of punk and blues - the album "fire of love" is good in the fact the theme of controlled sexual energy is ready to explode at any second, it will leave you on tenderhooks the whole way through.

Birthday Party- recently got into this band, though their career was short, their aggressive sonics were; at the time, highly innovative in my opinion. a very jerky, metallic, bluesy sound that had the ability to shock, and it gave the world Nick Cave of course.

Billy Idol - How can you not like the Rebel Yell album? (Eyes without a face, Flesh for fantasy) 'nuff said.

Bangles - Differant Light has lots of good stuff on it..Susanna Hoffs, yum.

The Cars - some of my favorite videos from the 80s came from the cars..I don't mind you comin' here and wastin' all my time 'cause when you're standin' oh so near I kinda lose my mind. :yeah:

Sonic Youth- Great band and they made three of their best albums in the 80's ('EVOl', 'Sister' and 'Daydream Nation')

Metallica- 80's Metallica is still untouchable for me in terms of their genre. The Four Horsemen, Seek & Destroy, Fade to Black, Sanitarium, Dyers Eve all classics.

Iron Maiden- They started to decline in the 90's but for me they were one of the best metal bands in the 80's and if you ignore some of the cheesy singles they released and listen to the albums then you'll find some awesome material.

Only 3? That's hard... okay:

Husker Du - Classic hardcore punk band goes "alternative," they laid out the blueprints to several different genres with 'Zen Arcade.'

Dinosaur Jr. - Great indie rock band, released their greatest albums in the 80's (Dinosaur, You're Living All Over Me, and Bug)

Pere Ubu - Post-punk madness.

Honorable mentions:

Big Black
Joy Division (More a 70's band I guess, but they released Closer in 1980 and pretty much paved the way for a lot of 80's music)
Misfits
Dead Kennedys
Black Flag
Bauhaus
Wire

3....well okay.

Journey- I always have loved this band...many people don't like them, but I love em. My favorite is "Don't Stop Believin'". I know it's cheesy but it's love.

Paula Abdul- She's famous now and she was famous then lol. Her music just makes me smile, I can't help it.

Fleetwood Mac- Okay...so a little 70's/80's, but that's ok. They're love, to me anyway.

Van Halen
Rush (flowed into the 80s and the material was still killer)
