My favourite "alternative" sub-genre.
 

seeing as 99% of this indie forum has bored the hell out of me recently, im going to talk about the small movement of music i like and hopefully share opinions on it. the scene im talking about is the new-wave, art-punk (yes, genres are ridiculous), bands influenced by bands such as PIL, gang of four, wire and acid rock. music that characteristically contains a frenetic drum beat, menacing, deep bass-lines and angular, dark psychedelic chord progressions. get that idea of franz ferdinand straight out of your head because that isnt the type of music im talking about at all. more popular bands this could perhaps be likened to is art brut, 80s matchbox b-line disaster and possibly be your own pet..though that is a loose comparison.

Neils Children
Twisted Charm
the Horrors
the Go Naturals
Wretched Replica
Blah Blah Blah
whirlwind heat

its a predominantly underground london scene, the only coverage these bands are getting at the moment is in flyers and myspace, and though this type of music is never going to appeal to a mass audience, i personally find it marvellous.

so, is there anyone who shares my interest in this, are is interested in finding out more about it?

Totally agree with that (some of the other's are a bit worse though).

But nothing's quite like the original. I've been kinda moving away from the new-wave influenced sound lately, unless of of course it is the prototype stuff. But, that explosion of garage rockish bands in the UK is impressive. It's kinda difficult for me to find the one with the lasting impression, just seems like there are so many of the same band.

Plus, I need synth. Or pop.

the band i think with the best chance of breaking out of the underground is either the horrors or neils children. though i think they are destined to (like the other bands) stay relatively unknown due to the fact the brand of music they play is the complete antithesis to the softer, pop-influenced, hook-layden music thats in fashion at the moment. and you wont find a synth in any of these bands except for the horrors.

I've always liked Whirlwind heat, but the rest I haven't heard bar Neil's Children due to my busy busy schedule this year. The thing I always loved about bands like Gang of Four was the deliberate drums and sharpness of the guitar sound, they just weren't afraid of playing their song as definitively as possible. There's nothing wrong at all with more bands coming out like this, I'll have to check more of them out.

While I'm here, my faveourite (I can spell btw... I just prefer spelling it that way) sub-genre is slowly becoming the American tapes movement, or a few other acts which could be considered minimalist noise.
The Animal Collective, Merzbow, Wolf Eyes and many others. I appreciate it seems to take some getting used to, and I've mentioned a few bands before, but if anyone can see the appeal let me know I'm not alone.

Recommendation album: The Animal Collective: Feels

I downloaded Feels, and it's pretty good. It reminds me of Mercury Rev. Good stuff.

Also, I've been meaning to buy 1930 for ages but I can't find it anywhere.
