Thom Yorke - The Eraser

Got it today ..... think it`s great.

It`s really odd , it sounds like Radiohead , but it doesn`t. It`s almost kind of more minimalist.

Or if you want that in English it sounds like Radiohead with all the guitars taken out.Don`t know if this means the new Radiohead album will be more guitar orientated or not.

Anyway , I like it.

MoonlitSunshine 07-18-2006 02:14 PM

I haven't listened to it enough, as I said before. Atoms For Peace is amazing though. Singing Falsetto like that is incredibly hard.

Sneer 07-18-2006 02:40 PM

apparently the new radiohead album is to go back to basics and focus on guitar led melodies. I see the eraser as the evolution from Amnesiac and Kid A, its a continuation of Yorkes obsession with studio wizadry. I was slightly underwhelmed on first listen though, it must be said.

dressing up 08-04-2006 12:20 PM

I'll second the Atoms For Peace song. SO GOOD!

swim 08-12-2006 09:56 AM

I think it's really good. I'm looking forward to more guitar orriented stuff though.

Yorke's new solo offering is very impressive imo. If I have one criticism, it's that he's not travelled far enough away from Radiohead territory. To those not familiar with his/ their music, a first listen might not enable one to differentiate between the two parties.

For me, Radiohead are perhaps the most important development to hit the indie music scene in the past decade (and more), although I suspect that I may be saying a similar thing about The Arcade Fire in years to come. Since Thom is such a major influence on Radiohead output, perhaps it was inevitable that similarities between solo and band work are so evident.

Here's hoping of a change in style (even if it does drift back to more traditional type guitar work) in the upcoming Radiohead album. Thom and the lads are no doubt aware of the need to reinvent themselves periodically in order to keep their competitors from snapping at their heels.

Gr8tLyrik 08-15-2006 03:56 PM

I agree. It reminds me a lot of Radiohead, but it almost seems to have a softer side.

cardboard adolescent 08-15-2006 06:30 PM

It's pretty sweet, it feels like Kid A mixed with David Grubbs or Jim O'Rourke, more subdued and "minimalistic" than Kid A and it also feels more personal. Great start to a promising solo career.

andy 08-17-2006 09:14 AM

I'll get it eventually, damn I love Radiohead

swim 08-17-2006 04:33 PM

^Urban posted it in the sharing thread but here. Thom Yorke - The Eraser

Mr Sensitive 08-18-2006 05:59 AM

I should be getting it tommorow when I go to Reading, I've heard a bit of stuff from it, it reminds me of Hail To The Theif a bit, which can only be a good thing in my opinion.

andy 08-18-2006 08:02 AM

3rd favourite Radiohead album, Thanks for the upload:thumb:

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-18-2006 09:10 AM

Why`s everybody so obsessed with Radiohead bringing the guitars back anyway? I think they do just fine without them.

Let all those sub rate sh*tty copyist bands *coughmusecoldplayandafewothers* use the guitars

95 % of guitar rock is bland as f*ck these days anyway *

I'm Liking Black Swan

MoonlitSunshine 08-18-2006 09:34 AM

well think of it this way; if thom goes off with the Kid A, Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief stuff, and Radiohead itself goes back to the guitars, then we have the best of both worlds!

andy 08-18-2006 10:07 AM

Doesn't look like it, just read an interview with Yorke, he seems keen to go on with Radiohead, and he said he doesn't like calling it a "solo album", as he doesn't like that word.
Anyone hear Arpeggi?

jonmarshall 08-18-2006 12:01 PM

i've heard arpeggi and its very appealing. if the new radiohead album is like that then it is the perfect way to finish a carrer. i've also heard a couple of other tracks and they r also great. they seem to combine all of radioheads sounds into a single song, very layered and atmospheric.

as for the erasor i can only say that i love it, its good that thom yorke doesnt feel he has to make electronica songs with huge bass and drum samples. i love the light feel to it and the sparse sound with the blippy rhythms.

everyone buy it

andy 08-18-2006 12:04 PM

Nice first post:cool:

I'd prefer if they didn't finish and kept going, myself...

andy 08-18-2006 02:38 PM

I think we all feel the same way

YakMusic 08-18-2006 07:52 PM

Really looking forward to this album!

swim 08-18-2006 07:55 PM

It's been out for a couple of weeks.
Thom Yorke - The Eraser

YakMusic 08-18-2006 08:00 PM

wow! really? I haven't seen it...maybe it's because NZ is so slow with releases sometimes :s I'm going out to buy it :) New Radiohead not far away too I imagine?

andy 08-19-2006 06:58 AM

I suppose they're still looking for a producer, well at least according to the gospel of Thom 6:11

YakMusic 08-19-2006 09:03 PM

woe...I wonder who they have in mind??

jonmarshall 08-20-2006 03:32 AM

the new radiohead album is due for release in janruary or february 2007

better late than never

MoonlitSunshine 08-20-2006 01:19 PM

Cool, that's actually earlier than I expected!

andy 08-20-2006 01:54 PM

Cool, I'll buy this and the new Radiohead album then,

coffeeshop 09-02-2006 07:51 AM

I like it. A friend of mine sent me all the tracks. :D

Nightfreak 09-10-2006 01:38 PM

I got this on the day it was released (I think, can't quite remember!), and I think it's quite good. Nothing fantastic I don't think, but I do enjoy it.

theGruppe 09-11-2006 12:51 PM

Im not a huge Yorke fan, but this was pretty good.

sleepy jack 01-07-2007 07:30 PM

Can someone up it for me? The links aren't working :(

Frances 01-09-2007 03:28 AM

I love "The Eraser" I've taken "Skip Divided" off my MP3 though. There's a few parts in it I just don't like.

Pink Moon 02-10-2007 07:41 PM

I really liked this album it showed the continuing of Thom's fascination with production. The conclusion of it aswell? I've heard the Radiohead album is going to be going back to guitar based. I'm looking forward to it.

adidasss 12-08-2009 05:33 PM

Diggin the shit out of the New Moon song. About time I got his solo album.

Sneer 12-09-2009 09:57 AM

It's good, reminds me of HTTT a little bit. I dont think it flows as well as a lot of the stuff he's done with Radiohead, it seems less cohesive, but i was left mightily impressed regardless.

loveissucide 12-09-2009 05:04 PM

Any word on a second solo album? There's a lot of potential in The Eraser for more stuff which is nothing like Radiohead.
