how do i find out good indi bands?

i'm new to the music, and really like so far of what i've heard. but i don't own a tv, and the stuff i hear on the radio is a bunch regurgitated b.s.

is there a quicker way to find out good bands?

bungalow 07-20-2006 11:52 PM

Yeah, use this website.

BlandIgnition 07-21-2006 02:11 AM

travel.. i suppose. thething.com has an indie listing. good up and comers usually. doesn't elaborate on the experienced bands.

deadflagblues 07-21-2006 09:11 AM

Epitonic is -awesome- for finding new bands, sign up for an account and use the radio thingy, it gives you a mix of bands from the genre you selected.

adidasss 07-21-2006 10:25 AM

the quickes way is to tell us what bands you enjoy and we'll throws a bunch of bands your way....

Sound Devastation 07-21-2006 10:42 AM

hating the radio crap is the first step to becoming an indie fan :P

id recommend Last.FM... generally, if you search for a good band they give you more good bands. lots of indie groups/forums on there too.

Epitonic again is also very good. and so are we :D

explosions-in-my-pants 07-21-2006 10:47 AM

a clever way to show off the fact that you have a boyfriend...just kidding.

yojimbo, start with Bright Eyes, Death Cab for Cutie, or Neutral Milk Hotel. Also check out these record labels: Arts & Crafts, Saddle Creek, Elephant 6.
Eventually you'll be finding more bands than you can handle, just remember just because its indie rock doesn't mean its good. you'll probably run into a lot of crap before you find some of the more obscure great ones.

yeah listen to deathcore instead *cough*f@g*cough*

Indie is independant music. So...yeah anything on my last.fm for the most part is legit. **** what ^that n00b says. <3

jambo 07-22-2006 04:33 PM

at least most of it isn't garbage that sounds exactly the same...like any contemporary that ends in "core"

Sound Devastation 07-23-2006 01:27 AM

everything that ends in 'core sounds the same?

moron, go do some research before posting ignorantly.

That seems to be a common view these days, even though its completely wrong.

<3 godspeed

jambo 07-23-2006 05:40 PM

I'm just sayin you don't get the ecclecticism indie gives you, ****ing *******s.
Let's low scream and get a drummer that knows double bass, cause otherwise its not music! And you can watch in the middle of the mosh pit with your arms crossed.

Name some grindcore that doesn't sound like other grindcore
Name some metalcore that doesn't sound the same

With the exception of Refused, The Blood Brothers, and Idiot Pilot (ok band) all contemporary core conforms to a uniform sound.

When we want to hear about new Indie bands we all call explosions' boyfriend and ask him for some recommendations. What's so funny about that?

riseagainstrocks 07-25-2006 12:10 AM

lol jambo you lose. It was a joke in the first place and Adam and I had an inside joke he was refrencing. So STFU

and I really don't like most "indie" music. Post-rock rules. And that's mostly it.

its true tho he like alot of good music.. he has gotten me into a few good bands.. Most of you on here would love all or most of the music he listens to. His music taste isn't much like mine.. the only 'good' music I listen to , that you guys like, I got from him.

IndiElectronica 07-25-2006 05:42 AM

radio is always good. Check out live365.com and shoutcast.com for stations that suit your tastes (yes - i'm listed on both)

deadflagblues 07-25-2006 09:28 AM

Shoutcast is pretty good for finding good bands, my most listened station is a SomaFM one. Indie Pop rocks! I think its called, its the best station that i have found. its also on the windows media player radio guide.

pandora.com

im sure most of you have heard of and probably used pandora before... but just in case, if you want to expand your music library in whatever taste you have, pandora is the place to go.
