The Thermals

any opinions on this band? i just downloaded The blood, the body, the machine, it's kinda good although the vocals get a bit monotonous after a while. at first i thought they were a punk band ( i dunno where i got that idea, maybe from the Pitchfork review )..well, maybe they can pass off as a punk band, although i'd say they're pretty much straight up rock...apparently they're very political, but i rarely pay any attention to lyrics *shallow*
a lot of the songs have a bit of an anthem feel to them ( whateverthefuck that means Marijan )..."here's your future" is a pretty kick ass song ( how many more random thoughts can i fit into this post i wonder )

the reason i'm asking ( well not really, i just thought i'd mention it, i don't really care about other people's opinions *bastard*) is because they're actually playing in Croatia in 10 days, and that's the first time i've seen a band praised by Pitchfork perform in Croatia...( the bitch is that i have an exam 5 days after that and i'm already behind on my studying )

discuss!! ( or totally ignore this thread , whichever comes first)

Been listening to them a ton this week, mostly The blood, The Body, The Machine. It's true they do get a bit repetitive but you cant argue with a tune like Here's Your Future.

I don't have The blood anymore for some reason. Must redownload it. I got the latest one but have yet to hear it. Apparently they've gone pop? *doesn't know*

Ahhh they have a new one, i was wondering why there were all these song scrobbled on Last FM I didn't recognise. I'll have to track it down. They were fairly poppy in a lo-fi way anyway i think.

The Blood, The Body, The Machine is excellent. I have enjoyed it so much I haven't even needed to start their second album. Is it as good?

The Body, The Blood, The Machine is pretty good but I really like their latest one, Now We Can See, better. I haven't checked out their first two, but from parts I've heard of Fuckin-A, I don't know that I'd like it. I like punk rock but this is more indie punk and the sound is a bit thin with vocals that can get a bit annoying. I guess I find the sound more full and the vocals less annoying on the most recent. I like it a lot.

Personal Life (2010)

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...GL._SS500_.jpg

I've seen several people post about it in the Recent Purchase/Download and Albums You're Digging threads, including myself (download). I'm just now getting around to playing it for the first time. Thought I'd bring the discussion over to the band's thread.

My intial thoughts? Sounds good and I think I'll get much enjoyment out of it. But what I find a little peculiar is that several people (here and elsewhere) have said they like it better than Now We Can See, with one saying it was perhaps "a return to form". This I don't really understand. I for one really liked Now We Can See. But that's not the problem. The problem is that so far I'm seeing the new album as much more mellow than Now We Can See, and that's where I fail to see why fans of their older albums didn't like that one but like this one more. Maybe it's not about the loundness of it, but the songwriting. I don't know. Either way, I'm enjoying this, just trying to understand where people are coming from, what made that album a hick-up for some fans, so to speak. Because for me, it had a more consistent sound to the older stuff than this one.

(current song "Your Love Is Strong" is less mellow and goes well with the older albums, I suppose)

PS - Mods, this should probably be moved to Indie & Alternative.

There was a time when the Thermals were one of the more exciting pop-punk bands around. Songs like "I Know the Pattern" and "Here's Your Future" had a spark and energy that they've sadly lost touch with recently. I mean, compare this

to this

I kinda miss the Thermals, to be honest
