The Dandy Warhols

i did a search and couldnt find anything on them here.

Im kind-of liking some of their stuff. "The last high" and "we used to be friends" are cool and catchy.

What do you guys think?

Spike*Spiegel 01-06-2007 06:50 PM

ive only ever liked 1 song by them. its from the crazy/beautiful soundtrack.

swim 01-06-2007 06:54 PM

The stuff I heard was madly overproduced and nothing special.

Spike*Spiegel 01-06-2007 06:57 PM

the name of the song is Sleep

A major label art band. If they just gave up all thier cross genre attempts and focused on their 'unbearable lightness of failure' cool they'd do well.

I do like quite a few of their songs.

Dandys Rule O.K. -
Genius
Lou Weed
Nothin' To Do

Come Down -
Cool as Kim Deal
Minnesoter
Not if You Were the Last Junkie on Earth

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-10-2007 12:31 PM

I`ve liked this band for what seems like forever.

But......

They`ve still yet to convince me as far as albums go. I think they`re a fantastic singles band but none of their albums have really grabbed me as being that great.

littleknowitall 01-10-2007 01:06 PM

Awww i haven't listened to these since i was a wee little chubby kid, i love this band, hehe.

Merkaba 01-10-2007 02:13 PM

I've got their album with the Bohemian Like You song on it, and after hearing that poppy-rocky song I considered the rest of the album is really, really strange.

Sparky 01-10-2007 03:01 PM

i was talking to this dude at my highschool and apparently the guitar player for them used to date his older sister, and sometimes babysit him..i just found it kind off funny

Frances 01-10-2007 07:39 PM

I have the "Tales from Urban Bohemia" album and I think it's great.
the song "Shakin" reminds me of Lou Reed.
Haven't got into much other stuff of theirs though.

dojo 01-11-2007 10:35 AM

I heard Bohemian Like You and The Last High .. the songs were pretty nice.

cardboard adolescent 01-11-2007 03:08 PM

Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia is pretty good, though, like Urban said, they're not all too inconsistent. The first three songs are great though, and flow really well, and then, you know, Bohemian Like You is pretty catchy.

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-11-2007 03:30 PM

I forgot they released an album about 18 months ago.

Then I remembered it was Odditorium / Warlords of Mars and I remembered how I nearly cried when I heard it because it was so awful.

If there`s one band that should avoid going prog rock it`s this one :(

cardboard adolescent 01-11-2007 03:31 PM

Have you heard the Monkey House one (I forget what it's called)? I've been thinking of downloading it.

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-11-2007 03:33 PM

It`s not as great as the others , probably the best you can expect when you consider the keyboard player from Duran Duran produced it.

cardboard adolescent 01-11-2007 03:33 PM

Gotcha...

hahahaha so true

lenrotche 01-13-2007 05:17 PM

I saw them live a while ago. The singer was so high I think he was struggling to sing and play guitar at the same time.... It was definitely one of the most disappointing concerts I've been to.

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-13-2007 05:36 PM

How can a topless keyboard player be dissapointing?

Strummer521 01-13-2007 08:27 PM

Let the record show that I was listening to Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia yesterday when I got my first acceptance letter from a college.

cardboard adolescent 01-13-2007 08:28 PM

Record? What record? Are you some kind of paranoid schizophrenic? Are you on drugs?

That would've made the show a little less disappointing....but she had her top on.

cornandbeans 12-04-2009 09:02 PM

I'll always love the Dandy Warhols regardless of what their output is just because I grew up listening to them, but really... This is probably my second favorite song ever. Hard to imagine that they used to make this kind of music.

proto-punk 12-04-2009 09:37 PM

i heard about them in a magazine, never really looked into it too much, what type of genre are their and they any good?

cornandbeans 12-04-2009 09:50 PM

Their earlier stuff is more psychedelic/shoegaze and kind of pop rock. Their newer tunes seem to be a little less organic sounding and since dropping off of Capitol they've lost a lot of recognition.

If you're new to them, I'd start with their album Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia and work your way back. The Dandys Rule, Ok? is my personal favorite but there are gems on all of their albums.

Great track from Thirteen Tales!

Scienquist 12-08-2009 03:56 PM

I understand the criticism of these guys. But I kind of of like em. They kind of have a popified Velvet Underground sound to them.

gogojessicat 01-16-2010 06:34 AM

I liked them at first. but they get annoying really quickly.

MusicManRandy 02-23-2010 08:57 AM

they're a good band...but is there any creativity without drugs?

I'm definitely with you on this one. But the ones I do enjoy, I pretty much LOVEEEE.

Well, I know responding to this post now is pointless but, I'd have to disagree with you. The only thing connecting the two would be having Andy Warhol somehow involved being it inspiration for a name or having him boast your music around. Oh, and also, VU was very much pop like post Cale years... bu-dum-ba-dum.
