Maria Taylor

Didn't quite know where to put this, but hookers_with_machine_guns considers her folk so thats good enough for me. Lynn Teeter Flower leaked, I can also up 11:11 if anyone wants it. I was suprised we had no thread on her. Shes good, one half of Azure Ray so you know what to expect.

Recommendations:

Leap Year is outstanding.
I was just going to make a thread on Maria Taylor.
Beautiful voice :)

You know i'm listening to her now and shes kind of like the female version of the Elliott, I don't want that to make people expect more then they're going to get, but the more folky stuff like Two of Those Two reminds me alot of him. Her vocals have the same haunting whispery you hear in Elliott, shes less rooted in rock with her stuff but still the music is the same melancholic and somber style. I mean theres key differences and I wouldn't compare her to the full band stuff in the same way I wouldn't compare elliott to the electronic stuff, but its definitely similar to stuff like Twilight at times. Though her lyrics are average at best, which isn't the case with elliott.

Eh, all I've heard is the stuff on her mysapce and it's all great, except for that one that had like electronic touchings in the background.

sleepy jack 05-26-2007 01:08 PM

Her electronic/electric stuff is pretty meh aside from a few songs.

The Dave 05-26-2007 01:24 PM

That's what I figured, her voice just doesn't go well with it imo.

Yeah I agree, she does well on Song Beneath the Song but thats about all I can recall. Her acoustic stuff is fantastic stuff.

I've heard two of her albums, and I love them both. I even thoroughly enjoy her work with Azure Ray. Yeah, she hasn't done wrong, in my book.

Maria just released her 3rd album "Lady Luck" in April. It's her best one yet, in my opinion.

Quote:

LadyLuck, Taylor’s third solo effort, is about “personal growth and the change that comes with it,” she says. Much of the album was written as Taylor was preparing for a move (to Los Angeles) and immediately after arriving. “This change in my life was so so needed,” she says, “that, whereas lots of older songs have happy words but a sad undertone, these songs have sad words but with hopeful undertones of renewal.”
To better appreciate the recurring theme of "lost love" throughout the album, it's noteworthy to point out that the person she's talking about is Conor Oberst. They were in a long-term relationship (on & off) for about 7 years. This album reflects her mind state of "life after Conor."

Also noteworthy is the last track "Cartoons & Forever Plans" featuring Michael Stipe (R.E.M.) and Andy LeMaster (Now It's Overhead) providing backing vocals & co-writer credits.

I find her music bland and generic. It's not done poorly, but nothing makes her stand out from other female singer-songwriters out there.

i love maria taylor and i dont think anyone has a sweeter more gentler or kinder voice than she does, it kinda lets you know its gonna be ok

A promo copy of the new album has hit the web. It's pretty wild. Some tracks are her classic style, but others are quite a lot heavier. I'm digging it :)
