Anyone have any infectious pop confection recommendations?
Hi! I'm looking for some album recommendations. I'm looking for stuff in the indie-pop/rock range that is extremely infectious, or "pop confections" so to speak. Buelah, the Cardigans' "Life", Apples in Stereo's "Funtrick..." come to mind. But stuff that doesn't get too pretentious or experimental or cheesy sounding. It doesn't all have to be positive and upbeat, it can be bittersweet as well. The Apples later albums just sound like the Beatles... same with Of Montreal. Just good solid indie pop/rock that has good pop-sensibility. Thanks!!
I tend to use eMusic.com to discover and download, but I still haven't found material that surpasses the artists I mentioned... (bands that show up in the "like artist suggestions" for example) |
Belle and Sebastian "The Blues Are Still Blue"?
YouTube - Belle and Sebastian - The Blues Are Still Blue |
Reverie Sound Revue - walking around waiting downtown

Infectious? You need some twee pop. My suggestions:
Tullycraft (any) Architecture In Helsinki - In Case We Die The Softies - It's Love All Girl Summer Fun Band - self-titled (the best for last). |
just search around, like myspace it, you can find many songs, and u can use a myspace ripper
|
i just picked up camera obscura's 'underachievers please try harder'. female vocals, nice, soft, poppy stuff. i've heard their new one is good but haven't heard it, yet.

Peter, Bjorn and John- Young Folks
youtube.com/watch?v=51V1VMkuyx0 Warning: This song contains highly addictive Whistle. |
Anything by Stereolab or Imitation Electric Piano.
Also i`d recommend Teenage Fanclubs Grand Prix album & Primal Scream's Sonic Flower Groove |
Jens Lekmen- Oh You're So Silent Jens
Blonde Redhead- Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons |
Guillemots - Through the Windowpane, or you might enjoy the Spinto Band.
If you want an upload, just hollar. |
Checkout Peachcake. They have that poppy catchy rock/electronica sound to them.
Also 1090 Club's "Shipwrecked on Shores" is your solid hooky indie stuff. They're both on tour right now and are gonna be at SXSW. |
I already mentioned these guys on another thread.... don't know if they have an album out or not but 'Buen Chico' (myspace.com/buenchico) are really good!

They are just doing the final mixing on their debut album which will be out end Sept / early Oct with a single off the album a bit earlier. They have a pretty decent Myspace site at myspace/buechico . . . . . . enjoy! |
I smell an advertising conspiracy...

Volcano, I'm Still Excited!! - self titled
Its pretty quirky at some points, but in my opinion they deserve more credit for their only lp. |

If you want an Indie Pop/Rock group that has great pop sensibility, check out STARS, from Canada. I have only heard "NIGHT SONGS" all the way through, but it is fantastic. I have been very slow to completely warm to a lot of Indie Rock, because of the lack of catchy Pop sensibility... STARS was a definite exception. Oh, and Mew... I like their sound. Infectious from listen one. |
Well done on bumping a thread from someone who's not been here in a year and a half.
