June of 44

I couldn't even get close to doing this band justice really. And, yes, another math rock I'm going on about. Some of the members have also been seen in Rodan, Lungfish, Codeine, Rex, Crownhate Ruin , Hoover, HiM[pretty different from HIM], Mice Parade, The Sonora Pine, Shipping News and Rachel's. They formed in 94 broke up 2000 and released six albums. They're one of the bands that somewhat laid down the foundation or teased with post-rock. They've got nice progressive jams with roots pretty strong in post-punk and jazz but free to do whatever the hell they want. My computer is acting funny but I'm sure they have a myspace and I would up an album upon request but every upload site says they don't want that but if someone does look into it and want more then I can do my best to find a link.

i have : engines take to water here if someone wants it....you mentioned Him though...such an amazing band, i played a few shows with them back inthe day...sooo good, nice guys too..i highly recommend them.

swim 03-23-2007 07:47 PM

I've only heard a little of HiM and it was really good so I'd be interested if you could get around upping some of their stuff.

What was your band, did you record anything or just a live set and if you recorded anything can I hear it.

bloodorflies 03-23-2007 07:50 PM

yeah i have a 20 song discography of my one indie band...everyone said we sounded like fugazi and hoover...i don't hear it too much though, but i always took it as a compliment..and I'll get some HIm up and put it in the indie share thread too..might not be all there till tomorrow morning though...i think I'm going out in a few minutes

edit: i also have about 8 songs from my old metal band...much heavier stuff. I'll put that up too.

edit#2: one Him album up, i only have one other one...it's in the indie share spot.

not a problem

Kevorkian Logic 03-25-2007 12:45 PM

I can upload Anahata if anyone wants me to.

But Engines Take to the Water is a really good album, so I don't see to much point in it.

bloodorflies 03-25-2007 01:16 PM

i like the packaging on that album....they made it like a big matchbook.

Four Great Points is marvelous.

Did anyone else notice a June of 44 poster on the wall in the house in A Scanner Darkly? I saw it and felt cool.

Farfisa 12-15-2008 08:05 AM

I've really been getting into June of 44 again lately... "Four Great Points" and "Engine Takes to Water" are both fantastic albums. I'm suprised no one has said anything about their fancy for nautical things yet.

Sparky 02-14-2012 11:31 PM

Man, life really hasnt changed at all in 5 years.

Anyway, i still really like this song a whole lot, the pauses add a lot

Engine 02-15-2012 12:11 AM

This thread predates my MB membership but I'm super happy to see the all this love.

I think Four Great Points is their peak but Engine Takes To The Water is also very lovable.

Excellent song, one of my favorites. Like I said I didn't know about this thread before today but I posted a review of Engine Takes To The Water here just over two years ago. I don't necessarily suggest reading it but I included a YT video of June Miller as a testament to the band's goodness. Nice choice.

Sneer 02-15-2012 12:14 AM

Nice bump. Four Great Points is a high watermark in math rock for me, I could never get bored of that album.

As far as supergroups go, a band composing of members from Hoover, Lungfish, Rex and Rodan is pretty fucking tasty.
