This thread regards the music group A Hawk and A Hacksaw, who were founded by Neutral Milk Hotel's drummer, and who take world music to a whole new level. Seriously, this is completely amazing mind-blowing music that anyone open to different styles of music thrown together haphazardly can enjoy.

Here's their self-titled debut (which I haven't heard):

and if anyone is interested in more, I purchased their third album on impulse and it's magnificent and I can upload it if need be.

Hmm...should I move this to the international music section? Seems kinda like your standard Balkan gypsy music...is it all instrumental?

cardboard adolescent 05-06-2007 05:07 PM

it's not completely instrumental, and to be fair it's an american indie musician going around stealing various regions' native sounds

plus i figure it'll get more attention here.

It's not standard Balkan music though there's quite a bit of electronics and other neat weird stuff that work its way in. I have a few albums and they're pretty good. I think NMH's drummer also did some work on Beirut's album Gulag Orkestar.

Oh ok...it says they're from Hungary tho. All the songs on their myspace page sound like Balkan gypsy music.:-/
