ratatat

ok i picked up on these guys a while back. i saw them live and it was an amazing show. they have 2 cds, classics and ratatat. i prefer the self titled but they are b oth AMAZING. its 2 guitars with plenty of layers and whatnot, really bad ass stuff. recommend starting with the songs "seventeen years" "cherry" and "nostrand".

they have a myspace page
www.myspace.com/ratatatmusic

they dont have lyrics, but seperate from their albums they make guitar licks using rappers lyrics. (what do you expect from ny)

Zealious 08-03-2007 06:55 PM

Get their ratatat remix volumes 1 and 2. It's their music mixed with the vocals of rappers like notorious, kayne, and Memphis bleek. Those two albums really opened up hip hop to me.

SEF 08-03-2007 10:58 PM

Cool stuff, it's nice to hear something different.

Expletive Deleted 08-04-2007 12:44 PM

I've heard both of their albums and thought they were decent enough, but when I saw them at Coachella they were pretty lackluster. Saw them again a week or two ago opening for Daft Punk and they almost put me to sleep. Can't say I like them very much anymore.

Ornette 08-06-2007 08:54 PM

Yeah they're not very good.

dont listen to this guy, read his post. all he does it talk **** on these forums. i have seen him make about 3 positive post.

i saw them at coachella and thought it was a bad ass performance, of course i was tripping on acid and im a HUGE fan... doesnt change the fact that i know good music when i see it

Ornette 08-08-2007 06:54 PM

No it's because I don't like the band. I can go and post threads about bands I do enjoy if you want.

sleepy jack 08-09-2007 08:19 PM

Loud Pipes was kind of lame but I liked LEX.

enemyat_thesix 08-11-2007 08:41 AM

i just take it from my head ya know i can do that no disrespect

joyboyo53 08-12-2007 11:52 AM

i could be wrong, but i believe its 'ive been rapping for about seventeen years ok. i dont even like my stuff anymore; i just kick it from my head, ya know what im saying... i can do that. no disrespect but thats how i am.' i also believe this is his explination on why they dont have lyrics in any of their songs.

jackhammer 08-20-2007 12:37 PM

I have had that Biggie remix on my PC for a while and I fúckin' love it. Exactly my sort of thing. Anything else out there to listen to?

joyboyo53 08-20-2007 12:49 PM

like i said, their two original albums classics and ratatat are both awesome. they have 2 different cds that are remixed like the biggie one. i suggest everything they put out.

Strummer521 08-23-2007 12:20 AM

can someone upload the remixes please?

jackhammer 08-23-2007 09:57 AM

I only have Volume 2-enjoy!

sal calypso 08-27-2007 07:33 PM

ratatat was great for one song. then the next song sounded vaguely familiar. thats right, it sounded just like the first one. then the next 7 sounded like the second one. then their drum machine broke and they didn't know what to do for like 20 minutes.... like a deer in headlights. personally, i don't buy the whole brooklyn thing. i'm allergic to hype.

joyboyo53 08-29-2007 11:27 AM

beyond my hype they havnt even been mentioned on here.. so i dont really know where that is coming from. btw all music sounds that same that you dont listen to enough. just like all people of a different race look the same if you live in a large majority society.

your hype aside, theres been plenty of outside hype for the last 2 years about any sort of rock music from the brooklyn area. i'm not even a huge music fan, yet this hype is undeniable and i live on the west coast. yeah, i'll admit.... the only time i heard the band was at their live show... but that was their big chance to blow me away and they didn't. i don't owe it to anyone to listen to this band multiple times until i find something i like in it. playing in a band is always about making a first impression on some new ears. if you f*ck that up, then the listener will hardly ever give it a second chance. this is just my take on this band. it means absolutely nothing. remember that.

Brock Landers 08-29-2007 11:07 PM

I saw this band open for the Killers... they were nothing special.

bsmix 06-21-2008 03:45 AM

ooo i'm down with 'Gipsy Threat' off their new one.

chasi 06-22-2008 09:57 AM

The opening to "Seventeen Years" really hooked me in... and then the song just got extremely boring. So, then I thought one of the remixes would be better, so I listened to their Missy Elliot "I'm Really Hot" remix, and it was about 10 times worse that the original.

FireInCairo 08-11-2008 06:28 AM

I really wish they were producers for some rad mc...
may just be my preference for songs rather than just grooves
but it does get a bit samey

that one dude 08-11-2008 01:32 PM

Seventeen Years is amazing... really got into their self titled. Didnt hear much of classics and I've only listened to LP3 once. I still think their first one is their strongest.

gerbilacrosse 08-24-2008 01:37 PM

Wild cat is such a good song

Sneer 06-01-2010 02:30 PM

I got to hear LP4 whilst doing work experience with XL, from what I heard it sounded fucking sweet

azonicrider188a 06-01-2010 06:13 PM

Lp4 is so good. their definitely going in the right direction with there sound

Oranguitarang 06-14-2010 12:58 AM

LP4 is amazing.

Bob Gandhi, Grape Juice City, Bare Feast, and Party with Children are my favorites.

Spike*Spiegel 08-28-2010 02:53 PM

*Bump* A co-worker of mine suggested I check these guys out. I listened to Classics, LP3 and LP4. <3 best trip ever. :D Classics is my favey.

jackhammer 08-28-2010 06:32 PM

I did find Remixes 2 very samey BUT Party and Bullshit is worth owning alone. Class.

Demasco 09-11-2010 02:08 PM

Classics is pretty good. but their music is kinda one note- the whole album felt the same from start to finish

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 07-15-2015 11:06 AM

Anyone check out the NPR stream of the new album yet? I'm giving it a listen right now.

DwnWthVwls 07-15-2015 12:47 PM

Would love to hear this song without the vocals.
