there are some good covers on that Lipstick Traces compilation, but 'Umbrella' is crossing the line I'm afraid.
Also what everyone's saying about Lifeblood be truth, last great(ish) record they did surely. Know Your Enemy has dated pretty well too I think.

they'll never get the old venom back though! This video brings back memories for the second MTV generation

I am an architect, they call me a butcher
I am a pioneer, they call me primitive
I am purity, they call me perverted
Holding you but I only miss these things when they leave

I am idiot drug hive, the virgin, the tattered and the torn
Life is for the cold made warm and they are just lizards
Self-disgust is self-obsession honey and I do as I please
A morality obedient, only to the cleansed repented

Chorus, all sing along now:
I am stronger than Mensa, Miller and Mailer
I spat out Plath and Pinter
I am all the things that you regret
A truth that washes that learnt how to spell

The first time you see yourself naked you cry
Soft skin now acne, foul breath, so broken
He loves me truly this mute solitude I'm draining
I know I believe in nothing but it is my nothing

Sleep can't hide the thoughts splitting through my mind
Shadows aren't clean, false mirrors too many people awake
If you stand up like a nail then you will be knocked down
I've been too honest with myself I should have lied like everybody else

So damn easy to cave in, man kills everything

Theres been some decent stuff since The Holy Bible but no more than the odd few tracks on records that were, overall, underwhelming or poor. Lifeblood is the exception. It may not be great when compared to Generation Terrorists or The Holy Bible but its the only complete album since THB in my opinion.

I'll be interested to hear the new record. You could see it as a step back I guess, I suppose it's a fair comment to make but I'll happily settle for something recycled aslong as it's recycling THB or earlier and it's decent.

i think the lyrics for the new album will be supreme but the music is probably going to smack of cash-in.

It's probably been mentioned already but watching that video you remember that NOBODY can mangle a lyric like James Dean Bradfield.
You memorise the lyrics pretty quickly after the first 50 read-throughs of the booklet, but I've put the lyrics under the video to illustrate this point to confuddled American types.

It's also why the thought of a new album doesn't really interest me as much as it would've done a few years back.
You're right about Everything Must Go as well. I'm just listening to it again now for the first time in yonks. The last four or five songs in particular are bloody t'riffic

Yeah I totally agree, Its probably about the only album Ive heard that gets really good towards the end although it is excellent throughout. 'Australia' is probably my favourite of that album.
As for the new record It's obvious they will never recapture the glory of 'The Holy Bible' when they put out the new album 'A Journal For Plague Lovers' but I do have a good feeling about it although it could be(as someone else quoted) great lyrics but not the music to match it. Fingers crossed...

Zane Lowe is a ***. I ****ing hate how every time he introduces something its 'the hottest record in the world' (I can remember hearing a preview of Richard Ashcrofts 'Break the Night With Colour' song a few years ago & he said exactly the same phrase before playing it.)
Also/worse so I heard from someone he has his own band or something ? Hope he isnt singing... :shycouch:

Regarding the new song it seems to have actually turned out the opposite as to what somebody on this thread predicted;that the music is very good but the lyrics arent up to much. I could be wrong, will still be getting the album on pre order though. Will make a full decision then.

this album's great. other than the awesomeness of the lyrics, the music is not "cash-in" at all. sure, it is very "produced", but it's a return to jagged, edgy punk and has no scent of sh1tty arena rock.

The rest of their stuffs a pile of sh*t. In their early days they were trying to be the Heartbreakers with a political conscience and in their latter days they just started to make dull music. The last album was music to yawn at as afar as I was concerned.

Indeed it is. One of the greatest.

Yes, and it should be enforced.

Yes, it is. You need it. Trust me.
