Mmmm....I likez it. Strange amalgamation of styles, sorta like the Animal Collective, at times reminiscent of Midlake ("No need to worry" at least), Sunrise reminds me a bit of The Rapture, at times retro-hippie-psychedelic whateverthefuck...the Pitchfork review

Check it! :yeah:

This album is brilliant! I cant believe no one has replied to this thread. One of my favorites of '07.

Forgiveness
Wait for the Summer
Sunrise
Worms
Waves

All amazing tracks.

2080 is such an amazing amazing amazing song, this album should've gotten more attention last year.

pheurton 05-23-2008 10:34 AM

Enya with bounce.

adidasss 05-23-2008 11:04 AM

Not even close.

I got this a couple of weeks ago and love it. In fact I am going to put it on now.

bsmix 07-05-2008 11:20 AM

I've been getting down to this lately. chilled out different music with eastern sounds and lofty layered vocals. pretty dark sounding at times too.

Rainard Jalen 07-06-2008 11:59 PM

Marijan, you are the only person I know who will say they like a band, and then when describing it, will compare it to a band they DESPISE! :D

EDIT: Oh. Is this a confusion of dates issue?!

adidasss 07-07-2008 02:52 AM

I wouldn't say I despise Animal Collective, they're just a tad too experimental for my shallow, pop-whore, ADD self...oh, and I sort of worded that comparison awkwardly, they're not like Animal Collective, but some songs did remind me of them.

bsmix 07-07-2008 01:58 PM

With both bands being from NY I bet it's a common association. Yeasayer is alot more structured but I think there are some similarities to Animal Collective's sound in 'Forgiveness', 'Waves' and alittle with 'Worms'. Both bands are pretty different overall tho.

i stumbled across them on myspace a while ago a liked what i heard... i almost got that disc. instead i opted for another release on WE ARE FREE - indian jewelry

This album's great. Dac showed it to me, they kind of remind me of Portugal. the Man.

dac 08-10-2009 08:17 AM

Yes, I've been meaning to bump this thread for a while. I came across All Hour Cymbals a couple of months ago and I'm quite pissed that it took me so long to find it. Easily one of the better releases from 08

mumbasai 09-20-2009 09:24 PM

great band. they're gonna be at funfunfunfest in november. i hope to attend..

chrissygerraty 11-10-2009 05:38 PM

Did anyone else go to Fun Fun Fun Fest this weekend? Yeasayer totally KILLED it. I didn't have my camera on me BUT I managed to find some wicked shots from the set. If anyone has any more please send them my way :)

The new album leaked. They've changed their sound pretty radically, totally pop-ed it up (which I certainly don't object to). I likes....(:

sidewinder 12-11-2009 04:22 PM

I'm curious what I'll think of it. I like the first but there are really only about 3 songs that I really like, the others being just ok. So the new album could go either way for me. As always, I'll wait for release to check it out.

adidasss 12-11-2009 04:46 PM

Yeah, the first few songs are really good but then...hmm...the music is great but his singing style doesn't really fit with the...beat (yes, they have a few dance songs on it). They definitely pulled a The rapture on the sophomore...I don't think I'll like it as much as the debut but it's early days. I imagine it'll put a lot of people off...

dac 12-18-2009 04:17 PM

The first track on Odd Blood is so misleading. It got me all hyped up for an acid trip of an album and then the whole thing proceeded to get mega poppy, which is fine, but fuck did I get excited after hearing that track. Album was pretty damn good, but I won't put it ahead of their debut.

debaserr 06-22-2012 12:26 AM

New album should be pretty awesome. The first two singles are very good (especially Longevity).

debaserr 08-01-2012 07:40 PM

Not sure if this is the whole thing, but it's been excellent so far:

I stripped all the audio streams from the videos for the complete album, let me know if you guys want it (it's holding me over until a proper rip).

I've got the album leak if you're interested.

100% it's sourced from the Youtube videos. If it's not AAC / M4A it's a transcode (Files are ~192kbps).

AndyRocket 08-25-2012 02:36 PM

I'm a notorious pirate, but Yeasayer is so good I bought the album. So far Blue Paper is my favorite. Henrietta and Longetivity are tied for second place. I don't know if this album beats out Odd Blood though, that was such a good one.

sidewinder 12-06-2012 01:31 PM

There doesn't seem to be much talk about Fragrant World on this forum - either here or in the album's own thread in the New Release Ratings forum (3 votes, one response). Frankly, I wasn't impressed when I first heard two of the songs on the radio prior to the album's release. I only heard each once, and didn't really get them (I don't remember which they were). But being a fan, I downloaded the album when it was released and it pretty much blew me away from the get-go. There was this weird feeling I had about it...like the tracks were mechanical and could keep growing and growing with each listen. And they did! The kind of feeling I get when listening to great IDM music, for example. It's not immediately accessible but there's something very intriguing and you know you'll be rewarded soon. They had a great amount of pop appeal while also having the right amount of screwiness and destruction that appeals to me most. I have liked each album by Yeasayer, but always felt they were pretty inconsistent. I read P4K's review prior to listening, which pretty much bashes the album and calls it their least consistent. Not that I ever take their reviews seriously (on the contrary), but imagine my surprise when I hear the album, really like it on the first pass, and realize immediately that it's more consistent than their past efforts. P4K, WTF are you smoking? It's unfortunate that their review probably had a serious effect on people's perceptions of the album, or interest in even listening to it. Oh well whatever, it's one of my top albums of the year. The tracks "Reagan's Skeleton" and "Folk Hero Shtick" are my favorites. They just took it to a whole other level from their other albums.

What I really came here to post was not just a reminder that you should listen to this album, but also draw your attention to the awesome psychedelic videos that the band has offered up for the entire album. I haven't watched all of them, just the ones for the two tracks I mentioned above and maybe one other, but holy **** do I LOVE THE STYLE of these videos and they really go perfectly with how I imagine many of the tracks sounding. Here are just a few to draw attention to the ones I like most stylistically:

debaserr 12-06-2012 05:42 PM

Yep, it's by far their best album (the P4K review goes on to rip "Rome", which was one of the best parts of their last album, so I took their opinion with salt).

My favorite tracks are Fingers Never Bleed, Devil and the Deed & Reagan's Skeleton.

LOVE Fingers Never Bleed. It's an awesome opening track.

debaserr 01-10-2016 06:46 AM

New track is great. I didn't even know the album was coming until this.

Dig it, looking forward to it.
