Shellac AKA Shellac Of North America

Another band I'm checking out at the moment. A project of uber-producer Steve Albini. This 3 piece have a stripped down minimalist rock sound that dispenses with the usual verse/chorus scenario and instead goes for repetitive motif's and scathing lyrics. I love the natural sound of their album TERRAFORM and I am itching to hear more.

that's an itch i could hypothetically scratch.

shellac are pretty awesome, though I would say I prefer Big Black.

Steve Albini is a musical genius. All his bands are amazing. Shellac's first LP 'At Action Park' rules.
'Atomizer' by Big Black is ace as well. Check out the song 'Kerosene'.
Rapeman is my fav Albini project. 'Two Nuns....' is one of my all-time fav LPs.

Never really understood the wankfest over Albini's bands.

I own both Shellac & Big Black stuff and while I think they are far from bad I've never really thought of them as being that great either.

I think he's a much better producer than he is a musician & songwriter myself.

remind me to send you a link to a website next time we're on msn. It's quite useful and relevant to this thread.

Digging Terraform immensely atm. I like all albums, though.

I prefer Shellac to Rapeman these days.

I consider Shellac one of the best bands of the 1990s. Back then they updated the old-time garage band aesthetic of simple guitar, bass, drums, vocals, and no bullshit - with an ugly twist.

Here's one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands:
Dog and Pony Show

I like Shellac, I do, but I saw them live on New Years Eve this year and they were so disappointing. I also think Big Black were generally a better band, whilst Two Nuns and a Pack Mule is as good as anything Shellac have done.

That's too bad. I saw Shellac a couple years ago and they were great.
I like all of Albini's bands, I don't really have a favorite. But I definitely rate Shellac's 'At Action Park' and '1000 Hurts' among my favorite albums.

Yeah, they were sharing the bill with Sonic Youth and The Pop Group, both of which blew Shellac off the stage. Their set just seemed lethargic, half-arsed.

At Action Park in particular is fucking great.
