The Lilys

Lilys, led by singer/songwriter Kurt Heasley, are a notoriously difficult band to categorize. With an ever-evolving lineup, home base, and a sound that swings pendulum-like between My Bloody Valentine-influenced shoegazer and indie guitar pop. One of my favorite bands atm and I had finally gotten everything they have released. I had found that they were very easy to just jump into and I had listened to "Better Can't Make Your life Better" (which was heavily influenced by the Kinks) more times then I could count...probably the easiest album to start with.

EDIT:I had gotten "Everything Wrong Is Imaginary" awhile back and I really shouldn't have started this thread because my knowledge on the Lilys was lacking a bit.

British_pharaoh 02-08-2008 05:01 AM

did they do nanny in Manhattan?

Farfisa 02-08-2008 05:03 AM

yeah.....

parodygm 02-08-2008 10:16 AM

I only really know "In the Presence of Nothing"... very My Bloody Valentine-ish. I think I heard "Eccsame the Photon Band" but wasn't too excited by it.

Any recommendations?

Ok I'm resurrecting this thread because I had written a terrible description and have replaced it with a new one.

simplephysics 05-18-2008 06:22 PM

dammit i have yet to listen to the lily's. Give me a week and I will have something of value to respond with

GravitySlips 05-20-2008 05:36 AM

Precollection is my favourite by them.

They're pretty great, very chameleonic with their sound.

Farfisa 11-16-2008 09:26 AM

I finally got to chat up Kurt Heasley, even if it was about a t-shirt I was supposed to get. He's one of the nicest musicians I've had the pleasure of talking to.

sweet_nothing 11-16-2008 09:46 AM

One of my new fav bands!
Dude you got to talk to Kurt, that most of been awesome! Anyway right now all I have is a Brief History of Amazing Letdowns (which I think is really great), but I'll get Everything Wrong Is Imaginary as soon as I can.

If you find "Better Can't Make Your Life Better" you should download that as well.

jackhammer 11-16-2008 02:00 PM

Hit me with that schizz fella. No z share though. It seems to be not letting me download for some reason.

Farfisa 02-01-2009 01:17 AM

Well, since my computer died on me I have not been able make a Lilys comp for all of you sweet honeys... untill now that is! I'm missing all but two albums from my collection and I kind of figured that I had enough to make a tasty Lilys comp soo... without further delay.

Download

ps. I really wanted to put 365 in this comp but, I haven't been able to find "Precollection" so... :(

phantom133pz 02-01-2009 03:23 PM

Hmm... I'm definitely gonna give the Lilys another shot. For some reason, the only thing I've ever listened to by them is Tonebender. I actually liked it too, for some reason I never bothered to pursue it further and I'm not sure why. Thanks for the comp! I'll start there and decide whether I want to get more.

Farfisa 02-01-2009 04:13 PM

The Tonebender EP? If you liked that then you should browse around for "In the Presence of Nothing". It's not very hard to find on the internet and it's out of print so that means it's legal to download. If you can't find a link to it I can help you out.

jackhammer 02-01-2009 04:51 PM

I will definitely pick the comp up at some point.

sweet_nothing 02-01-2009 09:36 PM

Im starting to really like this band but its very hard for me to find anything by them. :(

Farfisa 02-02-2009 05:05 AM

Blog searches my friend.

phantom133pz 02-04-2009 10:40 AM

If you don't know any blogs where you can find music, try searching like... The Lilys wordpress or The Lilys blog or something like that; you're bound to find something.

And I will certainly check out In the Presence of Nothing, downloading now. But I have a huge backlog! Far too much music to listen to (if that were even possible).

lucifer_sam 02-07-2009 03:59 PM

Just getting into this band, they're damn good. Sound like a cross between British Sea Power and some nasty lo-fi noise rock band. I picked up a few of their albums, listening to Everything Wrong Is Imaginary now.

I can see listening to this a lot. :thumb:

Sneer 03-10-2009 08:37 PM

Quite frustrating, they just dont seem to exist in blogs, where else can i get some albums?

Sneer 03-10-2009 10:04 PM

Nice one dude

Farfisa 03-11-2009 03:31 AM

I have their whole discography, if anyone needs any albums don't hesitate to ask.

simplephysics 03-11-2009 06:32 AM

I can't find a lily's album anywhere.. I'd love the album with Nanny In Manhattan if you will.

Do you still have that compilation you made, if so can I have it again? My computer crashed a couple weeks ago and I lost it. =\

Farfisa 10-12-2009 12:21 AM

There has been word that Sir Heasley is working on a new album. I'm a little annoyed though, the last update was 4 months ago and I'm growing impatient.

WWWP 10-12-2009 01:00 AM

Dang it I was so excited to download that comp but the link isn't working anymore. Do you still have it?

One of my favorite songs in the whole world. It just makes me so happy. :)

Sequoioideae 03-16-2013 03:13 AM

Lilys put out a new single a few months ago (first new material in 7 years). I have it on 7", and it really puts a smile on my face. :)

Zer0 03-16-2013 06:13 AM

I dig the new Lilys tune, very upbeat and summery. Sort of reminds me of 90's Flaming Lips.

My favourite Lilys song would probably be this, I love how understated it is

edised 04-04-2013 03:03 AM

The 3 Way : big favourite here !

A very underrated album. It's an obvious tribute to 60's bands like The Kinks but they pull it off brilliantly. Even though I'm a fan of Belle and Sebastian, their 60's pop-influenced direction in the 00's wasn't as fun and convincing as this.
