McLusky
The lack of mention of them on here is saddening. Do Dallas is beautiful, though that's not really the right word to describe it. They're like angry indie punk with lots of shoutyness and guitars, it's kind of like Big Black or an angry version of Pixies. Steve Albini produced Do Dallas =]

If it was 2002 I wouldn't have shut up about them.
I love Do Dallas. I always wanted to check out more but they split up and I forgot :(
oh well now we have Future of the Left. Do Dallas is the only album I've attempted to review, and actually completed - and it turned out OK considering I was 16 at the time. Too much of it is an anti Wales tirade for no apparent reason other than it's Wales, though. Aw well it's funny. |
Ahhh yes I love the song "whiteliberalonwhiteliberalaction"
Its dawned on me recently just how much i love them. An awesome band that satisfy both my need for pure loud-ness and catchy tunes as well. Do Dallas is incredible, and Mcluskyism is a brilliant compilation.
I'm not sure if any bands can hold a mantle to the Pixies, but damn Mclusky come close. |
Falco's got the manliness scream known to man.

I'm not too familiar with McLusky, but I like Future of the Left a lot. Favorite songs of McLusky?
I think the whole of Do Dallas is brilliant, if I had to pick one song though it'd be "To Hell With Good Intentions". Amazing track.
More of these new Arcade Fire like indie bands need to sound like McLusky. Indie rock needs to be louder and more vulgar. Have you ever checked out Future of the Left? Not as good as McLusky but who is?
I can't imagine the Arcade Fire ever rockin out like Mclusky...I mean, just look at the members of Arcade Fire. Last people yo'd ever expect rockin a song like Lightsabre ****suckin Blues...would be funny though.
But yes good point, the world needs more bands like Mclusky. I recommend you check out Part Chimp, they're a good, fukkin NOISY rock group from the UK. They're on Mogwai's label (they sound nothing like Mogwai though). |
Wow they're good. Do they have an album out?

A few years ago i was in a record store and this awesome track was on, i asked the bloke who it was and forgot the name completely, you've just reminded me i think. Ta! |
haha no problem, Part Chimp are awesome. One of the most explosive live bands I've ever heard as well. And on that note, oh how I wish I could've seen Mclusky live.
Laughing Boy, yeah they have at least one album out...the one I have is called "I Am Come", which is absolutely fantastic. I recommend it highly. |
I'm definitely going to be getting that.
I just got Do Dallas out my local library. It's pretty good. They sound like a louder, more raw version of Modest Mouse to me.
Fanyboys really annoy me and i obviously stand for music being subjective.
But you know what? Mclusky are the greatest fucking rock band to have ever existed and if you haven't got even the slightest hint of love for them then you have no rights listening to music in the first place. Yeah. |

They're name sucks. So that has caused an extreme delay in me checking these guys out. Do Dallas is pretty good (I couldn't imagine disliking anything Steve Albini is associated with). They come off as a band that would sound so much live and I get that feeling like I've seen "this band" half a dozen times in local basements but they're still good enough to keep my attention and almost seem to be banking on energy (which isn't a bad a thing). All in all good album that I'll probably spin again.
Mclusky along with reuben and whoremoan (the 3 bands dont sound alike just good alt bands in general) there was a few good bands who whent un-noticed a few years ago (in the uk at least) while crappy bands like nine black alps got ....HUGE
Sweet band, as everyone else has said, Do Dallas is a great album. Lightsabre ****sucking Blues is perhaps one of my favourite album openers ever.
These and The Martini Henry Rifles temporarily made me think that Wales was a worthwhile country afterall... but then they both split up |
I just discovered this band this year. They are incredible. I am in love. I agree about "Lightsabre ****sucking Blues." "To Hell With Good Intentions" was the song that sold me on them though.
They are a fantastic band, i'm a massive fan, 'To Hell With Good Intentions' 'She Will Only Bring You Happiness' and 'Forget About Him I'm Mint' are my favourites. Really love this band, but I must say that I prefer 'The Difference Between Me And You' album.
agree with swim about the name being crap but a great grand, principally for the lyrics and being good despite coming out of a very shitty dull scene of UK noise rock in the wake of nu-metal. Whoever mentioned Reuben earlier in the thread should go and stand in the corner
edit: @ Stu, we'll have no persectution of the Welsh here. Don't make me write a list! |
I just discovered Mclusky today, they're awesome :D
I might check them out. I know that a lot of people really love 'em, and future of the left is great...
They're super cool.
Mclusky Do Dallas is a damn good album, it sounds pissed off yet fun at the same time. I remember the song 'The Hell With Good Intentions' getting late night radio play here about a decade or so ago but I only checked them out in recent years. Future of the Left are okay but pale in comparison to Mclusky.
Do Dallas. Love it
