Spiritualized

I'm actually suprised to not find an actual thread about them, but I know more then a few people listen to J. Spacemen's music. What's your favorite Spiritualized album?

jackhammer 06-23-2008 03:15 PM

Ladies And Gentlmen is of course a classic but that's where my knowledge ends I'm afraid.

Rainard Jalen 06-23-2008 04:15 PM

The new album is excellent and I think there MAY just be something there for adidasss too!

adidasss 06-25-2008 06:06 AM

Nope, not diggin' it. Seems a bit like Dylan mixed with The verve or something doesn't it?

Aww man...I was hoping you'd dig the new album :(.

adidasss 06-26-2008 01:02 AM

Would it help if I said Ladies and gentlemen was equally unremarkable...?:\

Dear my, I've been rediscovering the hidden gems J. Pierce has. Ladies and Gentlemen is classic, obviously, but Lazer Guided Melodies and Let It Come Down are pretty awesome as well.

"Lazer Guided Melodies" had an excellent rythem section, not so much on later Spiritualized albums.

lucifer_sam 01-14-2009 10:05 PM

Well that was the only album with the original lineup, right? Everything else was largely a J. Spaceman solo album...

RoemerMW 01-14-2009 10:19 PM

I own Ladies and Gentlemen... and Songs In A and E, haven't listened to either yet :(

lucifer_sam 01-14-2009 11:08 PM

Give it a shot, Spiritualized is very accessible, more so than Spacemen 3, and most of J. Spaceman's work is very good (save Amazing Grace), but that could be me.

It depends where you're coming from, If you are really into punk, early Spacemen 3 but, if you are the average person Spiritualized is for you.

GravitySlips 01-15-2009 06:50 AM

I've still not got the big deal about this band, much much much prefer Spacemen 3.

CalRog 01-15-2009 07:07 PM

Ladies and Gentlemen is definitely my top pick.... Does that make me cliche?

4ZZZ 01-15-2009 08:16 PM

I was that impressed with them live last night I intend to explore further. I only have Songs In A and E. Lead me people:D. Where should I go next?

Malicious Wakizashi 01-16-2009 11:15 AM

Try Spacemen 3 - Perfect Prescription or Spitirualized's Ladies and Gentleman We Are Floating in Space.

Farfisa 01-16-2009 01:59 PM

"Recurring" has some good Spirtualized-ish songs on it too, "Hypnotized" for example.

Back in the day her paintings stirred up quite a lot of controversy of the "...but is it really art?" kind.

OccultHawk 12-29-2019 04:11 PM

Man as soon as he says Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space it’s game ****ing over

Frownland 12-29-2019 04:13 PM

Ja that's about when I turn the track off as well.

I really lucked out as a young listener in the 90s. I bought a CD copy of Ladies and Gentlemen... blind knowing nothing about the artist and impulsively made the purchase based solely on the intriguing prescription-themed packaging.

I fell in love with the album and discovering that it was none other than Dr. John on keys for "Cop Shoot Cop" was just icing on the cake. I later picked it up on vinyl and bought it again a third time to grab the limited edition 180g blue wax pressing.

I'm hoping to one day claim a copy of the original blister pack edition.

There's also a 2CD box set which offers listeners a glimpse of various stages of unmixed tracks and is a treat for aspiring audio engineers and for fans of the album eager for more sonic bliss.

Great stuff.
