No Age
Good noise rock. Any fans here?
|
I love No Age! So far Nouns is my favorite album of 2008. Im seeing them live for the second time in November, they put on a great show.
|
Nouns is pretty different from their previous album, I think they're heading in a good direction though.
|
I just sampled a couple tracks from Nouns. Sound really good! I'll have to check these guys out.

Yeah Wierdo Rippers is more ambient and lo-fi, but the more direct approach on Nouns definately makes for a better record. Although "Boy Void" from Rippers is my favorite No Age song. |
I havent heard their debut but I'm hooked on Nouns.
Missed my opportunity to see them live. Abe Vigoda was opening for them, another band worth checking out. |
i dont "get" this band. i listened to both of their releases.
|
i have bought nouns, havent listened to it yet tho.

Nouns is a great album, perfect for a quick blast of noise with some more calm intervals. I was a bit shocked when i heard they're only 2 people, there's a lot going on there!
|
Noise Rock eh?
We'll see about that. |

I'm very picky when it comes to young upstarts claiming to be a genre I enjoy :D
|
They arent that noisy, Id say more My Bloody Valentine-y than Sonic Youth-y, and more punk than noise, although "wierdo Rippers" is pretty ambient. But still noisier than most punk.
|
Depends what you'd class as noise rock i suppose, it's one of those vague terms but i have to admit it's a style that i have come to adore lately.
I have no problem with them being called noise rock. It's fucking noisy and it's rock music with an experimental edge to it. Edit: To be fair i also feel an element of pop punk to an extent with them as well so... y'know :p |
Yeah, its tough with "Nouns". Im more comfortable calling "Wierdo Rippers" noise rock, although I feel 'ambient punk' is a better term. "Nouns" is much poppier, so its a tough call.
|
I finally got a chance to check out Nouns today. I thought it was pretty good though I'm not crazy about how it was mixed. The noisy elements are very much in the background and I think most of the songs would sound better with the noise dialed up a bit. I bet these guys are pretty good live though.
Also, one thing I was surprised by about them was how much some of the guitar work reminded me of Bob Mould. Definitely wasn't expecting that. |
Just listened to nouns, i hear some great stuff. a solid debut, definitely noise rock, if not then noise pop experimental.
8.7/10 |
^Nouns isn't their debut, it's just their 'breakthrough' album. Aka their album Pitchfork bums to death.
And while Nouns is debatable when it comes to calling it noise rock, it's hard to deny the noisiness of Weirdo Rippers. |
I'm going to have to get their first one at some point.
|
I think technically "nouns" is their debut, since "rippers" is a compilation of EP's and singles.
And its funny, alot of people on MTV.com who bashed no age after their video debuted complained about the production for the opposite reasons. They all said the drums were too loud, which is funny because thats one of my favorite aspects of their sound. I guess Im that far removed from the average mainstream music listener. |
mainstream music listener = bad music listener

Troof.

I got Nouns last weekend and I thought it was really great, have to check out more by them. Teep Creeps is my fav track so far.
|
These guys are one of my favorite bands. Chapters is still taking way to long with my Get Hurt 7".
|
i thought this was the greatest noise punk indie rock fuzz band of all time. Then I heard Japandroids, who completely own this band.
|
I finally heard this band.
I thought they were hilarious. |

Japandroids are really good but I still like No Age more.

But No Age rules. |
I've only ever listened to Nouns.
But it kicks some serious ass. |
so...
anyone hear the new album? i may like it. |
Heard it. Just another 'noise-pop' excursion that is like many, many others. Hear it if that's your sort of thing.
|
I think the new record's actually pretty great. The first two songs especially benefit from the spacier vibe they developed on Losing Feeling. "Glitter" has a nice drony, rumbly thing going and then throws on MBV pedalboard squalls and cheesy Casio hand-clap sound effects. It's a step down experimentally from "Losing Feeling" itself but it's still one of the more interesting singles of the year. Even if it does get a little wonky on the back stretch the album has enough ideas and energy to warrant at least a "grower."

No Age really help build the Los Angeles DIY punk scene. Has anyone seen the movie Dean was in called High School Record? It features a lot of people from the Los Angeles music scene.
