Empire of the sun

"Empire Of The Sun is a collaborative project between Pnau’s Nick Littlemore and Luke Steele of The Sleepy Jackson. Steele’s vocals were recently featured on Pnau’s self titled album. Empire of the Sun’s debut album was released on the 4th of October 2008. The first single from the album is Walking On A Dream and the second single We Are The People. "

It's one of the most consistent dance records of the year and one of the bigger surprises for me. I don't think there's a single track I feel like skipping. Another really great electro-pop band from down under. (Click here and give some love for Pnau)

It's a step up from the utter garbage that Pnau is, but overall they don't impress me that much.

adidasss 12-11-2008 05:21 PM

Ah, Auzzy hate for Auzzy bands, legendary and original. Twat.

FireInCairo 12-11-2008 05:32 PM

They give me major "meh" as do pnau....
before you rip into me as another Aussie hatin'.
I like electro.

adidasss 12-11-2008 05:33 PM

Lies, all lies!! Don't listen to them people! Auzzies have notoriously bad taste in music...

FireInCairo 12-11-2008 05:36 PM

I agree.
The majority has horrible taste...
just like every country.
I'm danish anyway.
I just live here.

adidasss 12-11-2008 05:40 PM

Oh, danish Australians are the worst...the worst I tell you!

FireInCairo 12-11-2008 05:41 PM

hahahaha

Haha, where the hell is my patriotism?

Does anyone know if Steele actually disbanded The Sleepy Jacksons, or is this more of a side project?

joyboyo53 12-12-2008 02:14 PM

I much prefer Architecture in Helsinki... of course going to their show with some Aussies didnt hurt. Maybe you just posted a bad song?

adidasss 12-12-2008 02:21 PM

It's more likely that you're not down with electro-pop...:\

FireInCairo 12-12-2008 08:11 PM

They're just slightly cheesy pretentious electro-pop, and the song doesn't really go anywhere.
And while I love luke steele's voice, nick littlemore is a talentless hack.

I dont know about that. I mean I am a fan of Of Montreal, The Knife, MGMT, Hot Chip, The Blow, LCD Soundsystem, Brian Eno, Architecture In Helsinki, The Octopus Project, and Postal Service. I consider most of them as either electropop, having made an electropop album, or having a related sound. Like I said, maybe it was just this song that I dont like from these guys. I dont think they are horrid or anything, this song just comes of as too delicate with little that excites; it lacks a catchy chorus or a fun bridge, and im not crazy about the singers voice.

That was cheesy, but fun. I can imagine myself enjoying that a lot for a few weeks and then forgetting about it forever, though. :/

Which, to add, is basically how I feel about almost all Aussie bands except Cut Copy.

We are the People is ridiculously catchy, unfortunately they're another MGMT - singles are ok but the album is poor.
