Pia Fraus

I don't know if I should classify them as dream pop or shoegaze, but I don't think I've listened to them enough to really do so anyway. "After Summer" is one my favorite albums of 2008 and I thought that they might deserve a thread.

I only recently really discovered shoegaze/dream pop and I was wondering if you'd be able to clarify the difference for me? I just don't really know enough bands or what artists are considered to be. I think it overlaps but shoegaze tends to be noisier, more dependent on noise and distorted guitars while dream pop focuses on a more ambient sound with synths and keyboards and a calmer sound. Is that right?

You are correct sir, but with most dream pop you could get away with calling it shoegaze. I've really only listened to one Pia Fraus album, but if I were to judge them entirley based of that one album I'd have to say they were more Dream Pop.
