Rasputina

If you haven't heard of them, do yourself a favor and check out this cello rock band. They're so different, and though I really really hated their first two albums (which are apparently everyone's favorites), they get better from there. And imo, Frustration Plantation and Oh Perilous World are both perfect. Check out their song: Saline the Salt Lake Queen, you'll thank me. And also, their humor is spot on (most of the time, Thanks for the ether tried to be funny at times, and failed half of those attempts...The Donner Party entertains me). Anyways, please listen to them, and if you have, tell me whatcha think! <3

I like some of their earlier stuff. In fact I like it a lot but... I saw them live pretty recently... it wasn't very good. That's the nice way of putting it. The drummer was so bad it was pathetic. I'm pretty sure at the end of it all the lead singer was crying. I don't know if the gig was just that bad or what but I'm almost certain I saw tears. Truly... awful concert.

I have the album Oh Perilous World. They are definetly an interesting band, I should listen to them more.

I'd go with frustration plantation, only so you aren't overwhelmed by how different the sound is (each album gets a little crazier, so the first to the last is insane).

Crazier as in like louder, more rock-ish? Or just plain crazier. Because I would like to hear them do some more stripped down music.

I saw them open for Bob Mould back in the mid 90s. It was the first I had ever heard of them and I thought they were amazing even though the singer's stage presence left a lot to be desired. Industrial hired gun Chris Vrenna was playing drums on that tour so the drums were great. Too bad they didn't have him for the show you saw.

The only album I have by them is How We Quit the Forest which has a couple good songs but overall has never impressed me. I liked them much better live.

How we quit the forest....I hate that album, they were caught between moving on to different things and staying the same...it just didn't work. And Manny, it's much more stripped down. Oh perilous world is insane with all it does, it's the exact opposite. But it's very very goth (not that that's a bad thing, Some songs are great).

mannny 02-27-2009 09:17 PM

ok, so How We Quit The Forest is a more stripped down album by them, but it isn't good?
