Wavves

I'm not sure people hate Wavves, more the fact he gets a lot of attention ahead of artists that are similar and much better. I dunno really, he's hyped up by Pitchfork isn't he? That alone seems to get bands a lot of stick on the internet, almost always an exaggerated amount in my opinion, although Pitchfork do hype up some very average s'hit.

Wavves is perfectly decent though, with a few really great tunes. Who knows...

Lots of bands are hyped up by different critics though, why's it Pitchfork rated bands that really get it in the neck?

I think the fact Pitchfork hyping them up has something to do with it, but also the lead singer/guitarists live performances.. but I really don't know what it is. They seem to be hated by too many people on the internet, when they're just another noise pop band doing their thing. Decent enough band, but nothing out the ordinary.

There seems to be an anti-Pitchfork agenda for a lot of people on the internet, I mean I agree that it's not the best site and to be honest I've never really used it for anything, having used lastfm and allmusic (as well as a few forums) for recommendations instead. That said though, I have visited the site sporadically through the years and I don't really get the hate - I think it might just be some elitist internet forum thing...

If you take Wavves' music at face value though, there really is nothing to hate. It's not offensive, it's not making any political statements and it's nothing completely avant-garde or anything ... it's just somewhat decent music, fun at times, boring at others. I have to be in the right mood to enjoy their music, but for me it's nothing to get mega worked up about in a good OR bad way. So I do agree with you, but as for Pitchfork, I just think it's a kinda irrational hatred that's developed among the elitist indie fans on the internet, through the years.

Pitchfork have hyped up many bands that I adore. The Books for example, but Wavves really do nothing for me.

I'm the same, Allmusic Last FM and Rate Your music are my main sources of music recommendations/scouting. I've never visited Pitchfork the site, I've just seen reviews of albums by them on Wiki. I don't get the hate, they're just critics.. no more so c*nty than all the others. Kerrang is my least favourite.

Yeah, I agree. I think the second and third records are both decent Garage rock records. But I don't think it'd be the type of music that would be constantly playing, just every now and again.

I wish I knew the reason for Pitchfork hate, they're just doing what they do. Pick good albums to pieces and praise albums that probably don't deserve it. But for what it's worth, I like the Wavves music.

i think thbey are so hated because of their following, as soon as they hype a record every hipster in the worls goes out and buys it, often ruining it for exeryone else.

I hate this hipster bollocks, I didn't even know what one was until I joined this forum. Just judge a record for what it is, not because of its fans. If we judged records by its fans alone, Radiohead would be so fucking hated.

I think it's more a case of people getting annoyed at bland garbage like this getting so much hype rather than the people who hype it or listen to it.

If Pitchfork want to hype it, fine by me
If 'Hipsters' want to listen to it that's fine too.

Just don't expect me to think it's anything more than throwaway crap and don't jump down my throat for thinking that.

But I doubt you'd muster up the effort to actually hate them. Some people seem to actually hate them.

Thinking it's boring throw away crap is fine, but I don't get the hate.
