Matt and Kim

Boy with the Arab Strap meets A-punk...

The "soundtrack to Brooklyn." You've probably heard Daylight in the Bacardi commercial but the rest of the music is worth checking out.

Band: The lyrics composed from a handful of sentences written by Kim (drummer) and its another guy/girl duo but Matt's keys alternate between heavy-fuzz organ (its a setting on the keyboard) or the tin-y "pianer" jangle of ragtime piano.

In this way I'm guessing they're the sound track to walking into a 21st century Saloon in Williamsberg. If you haven't seen the commercial...

And if you have seen the commercial....

Let me know what ya think.

Really boring.

anticipation 07-10-2009 06:51 AM

they wanted $2000 to play a DIY festival being put on by their friends, they're a couple of losers and they make shitty music too.

Engine 07-10-2009 02:44 PM

As far as I know, I have never heard their music and if it sounds as happy as those 2 look in every fucking photograph then I'd probably rather keep it that way.

keith! 07-11-2009 08:39 PM

I think Daylight is pretty catchy. I like that song.

oh absolutly.

ignore the others, this forum has cred to prove. Admittedly, the other song isn't their best one, but i tried to pick something left of center.

One of my favorite pop groups! Grand is my favorite album released this year

Great band! They are so much fun, always happy, and they are really good live!
Favorite Songs:
It's A Fact

I lived in Williamsburg and I just moved to Michigan and I can tell you they're definately "Brooklyn"...If you ever taken the L Train they are without a doubt Bedford Ave.

I wont lie and say I heard anything from them before "Daylight" but I recent had to move out of state and when I saw the video and heard them I automatically thought Bedford Ave.

among my new favorite songs are "LESSONS LEARNED" (cool vid) and of course "DAYLIGHT"

winterinwarsaw 07-22-2009 03:14 AM

I don't really mind their music, it's just light-hearted pop not meant to be taken too seriously. But to be honest, Daylight is the most annoying song I've heard this year.

You moved from Brooklyn to Michigan. First of all why, and secondly I hope it wasn't to Detroit.

I suppose that's a joke, but it's still not funny. Detroit's a great place to live, just a bad place to have a business right now.

As for the band, have not heard them, but know the commercial you're talking about and the the second song while not my cup of tea it has some catchy elements.

Some of my friends saw them live and said their between song rambling was really obnoxious. But I like both of their albums, they're a lot of fun.

Nothing to do with the economy, more to do with the unprecedented violence that goes on in Detriot.

There's violence everywhere, Downtown Detroit is way more attractive and safe than it was 10-20 years ago. Same with New York, Brooklyn is the new Manhattan but there's still side streets and neighborhoods you should stay clear of.

Detroit city is disgusting and filled with the most ignorant primate sub-specie homosapien known to man...but the outskirts and metro areas surrounding the city are like paradise.

Bloomfield Hills, Auburn Hills, Rochester Hills, Shelby and St. Clair Shores....even "North" Ferndale

Detroit has a bad reputation but the music here in umatched especially the Rock, Dance, Techo, Indie & Alternative...some of the best that ever done it came from Detroit.

Detroit is like an evil bitch with some good ""...it's either take the whole package or nothing at all.

Violent & Funky 06-25-2011 12:28 PM

Heh, saw Matt & Kim in Detroit last night. They said they've played there five or six times and it's always one of their favorite stops on tour...

allhallows337 09-19-2011 08:46 AM

They're fun. A good-mood band. Block After Block is a fantastic song.

Matt and Kim

I can't find another thread about them, but the name is hard to search for.

Anyone a fan of them?
I was a huge fan two albums ago, I actually just tried listening to them again, to their newest album, and I wasn't loving this album the way I loved their other ones.

As people, they are hilarious! I follow them on Twitter and Facebook and they are great. I wanted so badly to be a fan of this album, but it just isn't my thing.
What does everyone else think?

djchameleon 06-06-2013 05:05 PM

Here is an old thread about them.

If you are trying to search for something that might be harder like their names just use google and type musicbanter after it and you will usually find the threads you are looking for.

Sure thing. :)

Arya Stark 06-06-2013 07:39 PM

Thanks! So yeah, what do people think about their newest album?

Justthefacts 06-06-2013 10:39 PM

I never got into them. Too poppy. Pop has to be just right for me to enjoy it. Very nitpicky when it comes to pop music.

Arya Stark 06-07-2013 12:10 PM

Daylight, when it got popular, was one of my favorite songs. I got the whole album after that and would always listen to it. I definitely think they are quite poppy but there's something about their most recent album that makes all of the songs sound way too similar for me!
I can't imagine going to see them live and listening to their music off the latest album, I don't think I would find it so great.

katsy 06-15-2013 12:47 PM

"Daylight" was one of the first I heard by them and I flippin loved it. Grand and Sidewalks I can pretty much listen to anytime. I love the marching band feel I get from their a lot of stuff, oh and all the poppy-ness.
