The Antlers

...and Harlem Shakes

Anyone like or even heard of either of these bands? :3

Terrible Lizard 08-02-2009 11:52 PM

Hospice looks promising.

Final_Victim 08-03-2009 12:02 AM

It's VERY excellent. It's probably my second favorite album of '09 so far.

Naked 08-03-2009 03:34 PM

I've been a huge fan of The Antlers for a while now. Hospice is great, but In The Attic Of The Universe is growing on me a lot.

Whytrabbits 08-23-2009 04:19 PM

I saw the Harlem Shakes when they opened for Passion Pit. I'm lucky I know :p

adidasss 08-23-2009 04:52 PM

I've given Hospice (by The Antlers) a few listens and it has a LOT of potential. I don't see how they unltimately connect with Passion pit though. Are Harlem Shakes more like PP or like The Antlers? Anyhow, I'm tracking down Harlem Shakes as we speak...I love Passion pit...(:

Final_Victim 08-25-2009 09:52 PM

Harlem Shakes is DEFINITELY one of those bands that grows on you over time, the vocals take a little time to get used to.

music_phantom13 08-31-2009 08:00 AM

I like the Antlers. Can't say I've heard Harlem Shakes, but I will be able to soon.

Charlemagne 08-31-2009 07:07 PM

Hospice is an incredible album, I know the Harlem Shakes and I am in the process of trying to find stuff by them, it won't be this month though. Stupid college blocking torrents....

dollarsandcents 09-15-2009 02:25 PM

I've given Hospice a lot of listens recently and I really like it. I'd definitely say it's up there with my favourite releases of 2009 so far, although there's still 3/4 months to go just yet. Really great sound, it clicked last night especially when I was laid in bed taking in the atmosphere and lyrics properly rather than listening o the move or sat at my desk with lots of distractions.

But yeah, great album by The Antlers just as I was losing faith with new releases.

keith! 09-15-2009 06:11 PM

Hospice has been my favorite cd of the year so far. Loved every minute of it.

gunnels 09-15-2009 06:16 PM

Album of the year so far guys.

tiancalovesc 04-25-2011 02:27 PM

The Antlers - Burst Apart

Can't find anything about this album on the forum...just came out on NPR's website today even though it doesn't actually come out until May 10. I love Hospice but was curious what others first impressions were on Burst Apart

Flume 04-27-2011 01:02 PM

I just finished Burst Apart for the first time and holy ****. I think this might actually be better than Hospice. I need a few more listens and some time to digest it but as said I'm really positive after the first listen.

storymilo 04-27-2011 03:13 PM

Mm I love the Antlers; can't wait to get Burst Apart. They're playing at a small venue really close to me in June, so I'm super excited, as I missed the chance to see them last year.

Nosferatu Man 04-28-2011 03:16 AM

Just about to start listening to 'Burst Apart' for the first time, really excited. I loved Hospice

Paedantic Basterd 04-28-2011 10:18 AM

Has it leaked then? I'm not going to stream it because I want the plays on lastFM, haha.

tiancalovesc 04-28-2011 01:51 PM

It's on NPR's First Listen thing for free. I've listened through it 4 or 5 times now, still not ready to commit a strong opinion. I don't think they used Peter's vocals to the fullest, but maybe it's better that way. And Hospice is one of my favorite albums of all time so maybe I'm just expecting too much. Anyway, first impression is that it definitely has some solid songs and moments, but also seems to drag at certain points.

debaserr 05-02-2011 08:31 PM

album leaked, maybe I should get around to hearing hospice...

Mr November 05-02-2011 10:55 PM

New album isn't in the same class as hospice. It's still a good album, but it isn't the delicate, carefully constructed, and cohesive album that hospice was. As far as I can tell it's mostly a bunch of good singles put together on an album.

So don't expect another hospice, but don't ignore it either. This album is more upbeat which isn't a bad thing.

LostBoyScout 05-07-2011 10:58 PM

The more I listen to the new album (and I've been listening a LOT), the more i've realized it's a grower.

I do agree with this, and while at the moment I still think Hospice is better, I can still see Burst Apart coming close or maybe even surpassing it with more listens.

Zer0 05-09-2011 04:42 PM

I'm really happy with Burst Apart, it's fast becoming one of my favourite releases of 2011. It good that they didn't stick to the same formula and that they decided to keep things fresh and interesting. It's still far too early to compare it to Hospice but it's an extremely well put together album and I'm sure that I'll love it even more with repeated listens.

Favourite song at the moment is 'Every Night My Teeth Are Falling Out'.

Dotoar 05-14-2011 04:15 PM

My presence on MB starts to pay off indeed. The Antlers may as well be my new favourite band (for the rest of the weekend). Having listened to "Hospice" and "Burst apart" back to back I realise that they're mainly about timid melodies with a perpetual underlying desperation to them that grows upon you. I dub it "twilight pop" and can't wait to throw a late-night afterparty if only to shove this down the throats of my fellows. Thanks for this one!

DoctorSoft 05-15-2011 10:14 AM

New album is fantastic.

___ 05-27-2011 11:00 PM

I was introduced to The Antlers around December in 2010, I frequented a music blog and they suggested the song Two. It got a nice numbered play count on my iTunes until I was able to buy the album, Hospice. I wasn't sure how I felt after I listened to it. After a few more times, I came to the conclusion that I have respect for it. Sylvia is my favorite. But I am willing to check out the new album, eventually.

SATCHMO 05-27-2011 11:40 PM

Hospice was a great album, but I have to say that it did kinda' make me want to off myself every time I listened to it. Well that's an exageration, but still. I'm just saying it's kind of like being stuck in a K-hole. Maybe y'all don't know what I'm talkin' about. Anyways, Is the new album maybe a little brighter?

1) Yes. 2) Yes.

Mr November 05-29-2011 11:00 PM

Is it weird that I don't find Hospice that depressing. I find it's emotional and sad, but it's never made me depressed.
