Monsters of folk

indie super group Monsters of Folk is set to release their debut album of the
same name on Sept. 22

they have released their first single "Say Please"

what are your guys thoughts??

simplephysics 09-15-2009 05:15 AM

I'm pretty excited for it to drop, they're all very talented musicians, and anytime Conor and Mike get back together for something its definitely worth hearing.

jveezy 09-15-2009 05:33 AM

i really wanna know how the work is distributed

who writes the majority of the lyrics?
who sings the most?
is there any one of them who influences this album/band more than the rest?

Janszoon 09-15-2009 08:20 AM

Who's in the band?

simplephysics 09-15-2009 08:24 AM

M. Ward, Conor Oberst & Mike Mogis from Bright Eyes and other Saddle Creek projects, and Jim James from My Morning Jacket, pretty impressive lineup if you ask me.

I have to confess that's like a who's who of indie people that I find annoying. But I'm happy for you that you're excited about it. :)

simplephysics 09-15-2009 08:42 AM

I never really caught on to the whole My Morning Jacket craze, but I think M. Ward is fairly enjoyable and Conor Oberst of course is one of my favorite musicans, him and Migos working together is really the only pairing I'm excited for.

I never really liked My Morning Jacket and M. Ward always bored the hell out of me. I am excited for Conor and Mogis though.

Also Monsters of Folk is a pretty misleading name for a band that doesn't have Will Oldham or John Darnielle in it.

I heard The Sandman the Brakeman and Me single on the radio and excitedly followed up on it. I was disappointed to find out that their debut hasn't even dropped yet & no leaks to be found.

Sure, I'll up it... because the link I used seems to be gone. Oh, one more thing, it's in acc format.

Don't care for anyone but Jimmy so naturally anything I liked on the album was sung by him.

And everyone who expressed their dislike for MMJ in this thread is officially dead to me. :|

debaserr 09-16-2009 05:58 PM

DLing now

Farfisa 09-22-2009 09:36 PM

Monsters of Folk on Conan O'Brian tonight, watch that ****.

henry 09-24-2009 04:59 PM

i think conor oberst blows majorly, so no thanks

simplephysics 09-24-2009 05:29 PM

Well I've listened to the album a few times, not really sure what to think of it on the while but it's still a good listen. If you're turned off by Oberst based from his Bright Eyes material I wouldn't write Monsters Of Folkkk off completely, this album is a bit of a stretch for everyone in the band I think. The songs are distributed nicely between members and it's pretty obvious who worked on certain songs. Half the album is generic, folksy shite we've all heard before.. but it definitely has some stand out tracks.. Losin' Yo Head is probably my favorite so far.
