Superchunk

Wow, considering this site's age I assumed there was already a Superchunk thread. If there is I apologize--I searched.

So what is your favorite Superchunk album? I'm trying to get a copy of Tossing Seeds right now because all I have is Here's Where the Strings Come In and Foolish... :(

Gone Sugaring 09-25-2009 08:48 PM

My favorite would No Pocky for Kitty and I definitely recommend you get it next. Superchunk are a great band who I feel have for the most part released consistently good albums. Plus they're the founders of Merge which is one of my favorite labels.

How has there not been more replies to this thread?

I'll search for that album, it has some good tracks...

I have Come Pick Me Up which is nice enough if you need some easy on the ears indie stuff, but i get the feeling that they wouldn't differ much from that?

According to AMG, Come Pick Me Up was late in their career. It was released in 1999, while the two albums I have, Foolish and This Is Where The Strings Come In, came out in 1993 and 1995, respectively, and have a slightly edgier sound. But my favorite song by them and their unanimous favorite, 'Slack Mother****er' is from around 1990 and is totally badass. I think Tossing Seeds looks like a good place to start for them because it is a collection of all or their singles early in their career (1989-1991). Here is the review:

I want a copy soo bad!

Does anyone have Majesty Shredding yet?

Violent & Funky 09-06-2010 02:27 AM

I'm eagerly anticipating it! :)

Precision Auto is a killer song.

8lackdrag0n 02-11-2011 10:29 PM

OK i'll say it. i'm not crazy about the new album.

BTown 05-07-2011 01:03 PM

why does it seem lke this band is relatively popular yet no one is actually a fan? I just recently got the self titled, on the mouth, and No Pocky For Kitty and I think they kick ass. No Pocky For Kitty is the best steve albini can do no wrong

Slack Mother****er is such a sick song. other good ones are skip steps 1 & 3 and precision auto.

This is so 90s come on you guys!! this is like malcolm in the middle ****!!!!

Violent & Funky 05-09-2011 06:45 PM

'Slack Mother****er' may just be my anthem. It's hard to pick a few favorite songs, but that's up there...

BTown 05-09-2011 07:16 PM

dude I know man I don't understand why this band has no fans

You have any idea what slack mother****er is about?

Violent & Funky 05-10-2011 01:09 PM

I always listen to it on my way into a work shift haha, but I've read it is actually about getting fed up with a lazy coworker and not so much promoting slacking off.

I've listened to all of their early stuff through Where The Strings Come In and Majesty Shredding, not sure if any of the albums from in-between is worth it or not. I think they are more mellow than Majesty...

BastardofYoung 05-12-2011 01:27 PM

I have only listened to the self-titled album, but thought it was decent, nothing overtly groundbreaking.. but a good listen. Downloading "No Pocky for Kitty" right now, hear it a big step up from the first album. Sounds good.

Have to listen to more of this band to know how I feel about them. But from what I have heard it has been interesting.

Violent & Funky 05-12-2011 01:31 PM

I think they're kind of a singles band, not really known for a masterpiece of an album. But everything they released early in their career has at least a few killer tracks on them...

BastardofYoung 05-12-2011 02:18 PM

Listening to "No Pocky..." now. I enjoy it a lot more than the first album so far. Going to have to get another album by them after.

Violent & Funky 05-12-2011 02:55 PM

Foolish!

BastardofYoung 05-12-2011 03:47 PM

Yeah, going in order. After I listen to "On the Mouth" I will check that one out.

BTown 05-12-2011 09:54 PM

yeah on th mouth has precision auto which is pretty sick but foolish is much better. Like A Fool, Driveway to Driveway, saving My Ticket, WHy do you have to put a date. all good tracks

BastardofYoung 05-12-2011 10:32 PM

Yeah, "On the Mouth" was just medicore to me, compared to "Pocky...". Not my favorite, second half kinda dragged on i feel.

chesterfieldking 08-06-2011 05:20 AM

I only know a few singles from most of their early albums, but I love the two I do know in full, Come Pick Me Up and Majesty Shredding. "Hello Hawk" kind of blows though.
