Pale Saints

Pale Saints was a shoegaze band that was active between 1987 and 1996. They started out as sort of an early Primal Scream-esque jangly pop group, but soon adapted shoegaze like tendencies. I have "The Comforts of Madness" and "Slow Buildings", and I seem to really be enjoying the former of the two. I've yet to give a "Slow Buildings" a serious listen, but when I do I hope it will be as enjoyable TCoM. Also, fans of Lush will probably enjoy this band because Meriel Barham (the original singer) joined up after TCoM.

I decided to download The Comforts of Madness... So far, I'm digging it. Very ethereal and dreamy... and yet it can also get a bit noisy. It's not quite shoegaze, though (I would be more inclined to liken it to dream pop).

It's too bad this thread hasn't gotten more posts...

The Comforts Of Madness is a pretty damn good album. I agree it's not quite shoegaze but it probably gets thrown in with it due to it's murky production which I don't think was intentional. I don't really like most album remasters but that's one album I'd love to see get the remastered treatment. Some really great songs on that album especially 'Sea Of Sound' and 'Sight Of You'.

In Ribbons is certainly worth getting as well. It was their first album with original Lush vocalist Meriel Barham on guitar and sharing lead vocals, she gave their sound a new dimension. They moved a little bit away from the shoegaze/dream-popish sound on The Comforts Of Madness towards a more straight-forward indie sound and the production is a lot better as well, and has some brilliant tunes such as 'Throwing Back The Apple' and 'A Thousand Stars Burst Open'.

Still haven't got around to checking out Slow Buildings or their early EPs.

I absolutely love this band. Slow Buildings is my favourite album, but all three of their LPs are great.

This may help mobilise the search for Slow Buildings.

I only know The Comforts of Madness but what an excellent album it is.
