Mew is for lovers

I'm starting this thread in an effort to find anyone out there who loves (or at least has heard of) Mew. For those who are asking themselves "Who is Mew?", Mew is a Danish "dream-pop" band whose music has the flavor of a dream wrapped in controlled chaos. It tap-dances on the brim of fantasy, while forcing out the reality of emotion. Once you listen to "Comforting Sounds" or, from their most recent album, No More Stories, "Tricks of the Trade", you'll want to hear more. If anyone else feels the same way about this band, or even if you don't, this thread is for you ;)

I can't decide which I like more, Frengers or Glass Handed Kites, they're both so good!

Glass Handed Kites is great stuff.

My main problem with Mew is that they never do anything new. They have a few good songs and I was hooked on Comforting Sounds for awhile.

No More Stories would be my personal favorite, followed by Glass Handed Kites. All of their albums are phenomenal though, I disagree too that they don't do anything different, I find each of their albums to really be separate entities from each other. Maybe just me though.

I also disagree that they don't do anything new.

I got into them with And the Glass Handed Kites, I love that album. I then got Frengers which is good but not as appealing to me, a bit simpler. "Comforting Sounds" is definitely the standout there. I dig the new one No More Stories quite a bit, but in a sense it all sort of melts together a bit, not offering the variety that I found on And the Glass Handed Kites.

I'll agree with you here but only to say that's why I absolutely loved it. All of the tracks really flow together seamlessly and it creates a great effect when you listen to the album as a whole.

Wonderful, wonderful group who still has lots of potential, especially if they continue to cultivate those prog. tendencies of theirs.

As a result (or cause?) of the "melting together" of the latest album that I mentioned above, I think it feels less prog than the previous album.

Don't get me wrong though, I think it's a great album that will continue to grow on me.

From what I heard so far, they're like Blonde Redhead, only just a tiny bit worse. Which is still good, mind you, just amazingly so.

Frengers, Lovelies,

There is soon on the moon news of the new record. Things are falling in to places as I am writing this.

As for this moment, I can tell you that part of the new set up in Mew world, will be a creative collaboration with quality audiomaker B&O PLAY.

This is shaping up to be a very playfull and engaging project that I am sure you will all enjoy it when it is ready.

Speak soon, sleep soon,
B
No idea if this will be expected in 2013 or later at this point.

a new Mew record, excellent. Hope it's more dream-pop oriented than shoegaze-y.

I'm really glad this thread was bumped, I'm going to check them out! I love dream pop.

Their music's really accessible and the vocalist has a really unique voice. I see these guys as one of the leaders in the dream pop genre, so if you've not heard of them and you like dream pop, chances are you'll really enjoy them.

As for where to start; as I said they're pretty accessible so anywhere would make a decent beginning point. Frengers is their most popular album, but No More Stories and And The Glass Handed Kites are really good albums also.

Wow thanks Manky, I will get those albums tonight! If you like dream pop you might like an Australian band called Snakadaktal who I am really in love with!
