Sufjan Stevens

His "Illinoise" album has, so far, been my favorite. Personally? I think he's a musical genious along with Bright Eyes. Taking two of our worlds most beautiful creations (Emotions and Music) and making musical poetry.
i'm jealous of anyone who's gotten to meet him. love it

I fell in love again
all things go, all things go
drove to Chicago
all things know, all things know
we sold our clothes to the state
I don't mind, I don't mind
I made a lot of mistakes
in my mind, in my mind
-Chicago (Sufjan Stevens)

I bet that you're a 14 year old girl.

He's all right. I think Bright Eyes is a bit better, but I'm not a huge fan of either. "To Be Alone With You" (I believe that's Sufjan) is a good song of his.

He's a great talent, but his music can be just too precious and soft. Illinoise is the only whole album of his I've been able to get into.

See, I feel like he is met with much more praise and laudable acclaim than is due, and I my sentiments concerning Conor Oberst are definitely similar. I just don't see the genius, and I refuse to take seriously any comments comparing the brilliance of Oberst to Dylan. But I do feel like both are nearly-consumate songwriters when compared to some of the other guys in the song writing circut. I particularly enjoyed Stevens' cover of Bob Dylan's "Ring them Bells". He put a very nice spin on it, I think. Additionally, I will say that Oberst's later Bright Eyes material, along with the current Mystic Valley Band recordings, contain some very solid, very cool tracks. "Stray Dog Freedom" and "Four Winds" are among some of the best songs he's ever written, in my opinion.

I will say that M. Ward is a much greater talent than either Oberst or Stevens, in my opinion. He seems to understand the true nature of Love, and his songs almost seem to dismiss the puerile, sophomoric subject matter that runs rampant through Oberst's work. And I will add that Stevens' work is much more whimsical and dreamy than Oberst's, so I tend to appreciate his music a bit more.
