I fixed that for you.

The Software Slump awesome and probably the most listener friendly album they put out. Under the Western Freeway is my favorite.

DearJenny 08-18-2006 04:14 PM

They did some songs for Dawn of the Dead didnt they? Them and Brian Eno practically wrote the score I believe.

YakMusic 08-18-2006 07:57 PM

Grandaddy are a fantastic band - being a fan since The Sophtware Slump :)

IndiElectronica 08-21-2006 04:23 AM

prolly my fav band of the last couple years.

CRIMINALLY under-rated and under-appreciated... shame as now they are gone :(

i've thought about that and can't really agree. Quite different sounds I think, with Pavement centered around a guitar and Grandaddy more synths.

Grandaddy is the champion of Space-Pop after all :)

dogbreath1 08-22-2006 11:52 AM

The demise of this band was truly disastrous. Jason Lytle is a genius writer of songs and a superb vocalist. I too adore The Sophtware Slump. Equally though, I think that Sumday is an excellent release.

More recently, Just Like The Fambly Cat has kept up the high standard of output.

Apparently, the band felt that they could do no more. Tragic!

RIP Grandaddy, but their music will live on forever.

swim 08-22-2006 11:54 AM

Tis very sad that they broke up.

I've just been checking this out, coz if it is the case, I'd want to get hold of the music.

Having had a good Google, it appears that neither the incidental music nor soundtrack were created by Grandaddy/Eno.

If you have any information on this that I've missed, a link/s would be very much appreciated....:)

Personally, I think The Sophtware Slump closely followed by Sumday.

IndiElectronica 08-25-2006 08:14 AM

Here's the order to buy their albums... if you are not sure about them. Otherwise just get them all in chronological order...

The Sophtware Slump
Sumday
Under the Western Freeway
Just Like the Fambly Cat
A Pretty Mess By This One Band

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-25-2006 11:45 AM

There`s also a collection of early material called The Broken-Down Comforter Collection which is worth getting.Especially as it`s the price of an E.P./ Mini album.

jonmarshall 08-25-2006 06:55 PM

cheers, i'll check em out

Bane of your existence 08-01-2007 03:48 AM

The Sophtware Slump is such a good album.

Bane of your existence 08-11-2007 01:11 AM

I just ordered that one like a month ago. Hopefully it'll get here soon.

bard 03-28-2008 01:15 PM

Grandaddy is one of my favorite bands.

Broken Down Comforter Collection
Concrete Dunes
Excerpts from the Diary of Todd Zilla
Just Like the Fambly Cat
The Sophtware Slump
Sumday
Under the Western Freeway

All really great.

chartsengrafs 03-28-2008 03:50 PM

you're referring to a.m. 180.

grandaddy is my favorite band, by far. radiohead was my former favorite, but i like grandaddy so much that i don't even listen to radiohead with the same joy that i used to. a lot of people think the sophtware slump is their best album, but i generally put utwf, sumday and jltfc above it, with just like the fambly cat being my favorite by a longshot. jason lytle is my musical god and i am highly anticipating a solo debut or something. truly great music.

IndiElectronica 04-01-2008 11:32 AM

i gave a mate of mine some music on his mp3 for his 6 month travels... a.m. 180. was the song that came on first EVERY time he started his mp3 player... he now hates grandaddy with realy passion :(

Zombeels 04-06-2008 11:01 PM

Grandaddy is great. I even like the All Smiles album by Grandaddy member Jim Fairchild.

Malicious Wakizashi 04-09-2008 12:59 PM

I will give them a listen, thanks.

provorocker 04-12-2008 03:50 AM

I dont care for Grandaddy much... I think their music is somewhat boring. Are they any good live though?

Janszoon 02-11-2009 01:02 PM

I was just listening to Sumday and reminiscing about back when this album first came out and I used to listen to it all the time. So I figured I'd go see if there's an MB thread for them and lo and behold there is!

I got into this band in a weird way that is unique in my long history of how I've gotten into bands. Back in 2001 I worked at a record store in Chicago for only one day. I was out of college at that point but times were tough for me then and I had always wanted to work in a record store. I worked only one day because they were trying out a couple potential new-hires for one day each. Unfortunately, my lack of a car was a deal killer for them and I didn't get hired. Anyway, at some point during the day, one of the people who was briefly a coworker of mine put on The Sophtware Slump and I was floored by it. I went out and bought it not long after and have been a fan ever since. So I guess that day wasn't a total loss.

Gone Sugaring 03-23-2009 11:07 PM

Under The Western Freeway is my favorite Grandaddy album and it kills me they broke up. Although Jason Lytle is releasing a solo album on May 19. Needless to say I'm very excited because I think he's a great songwriter.

gogojessicat 01-16-2010 11:37 AM

Grandaddy is amazing. I love Sumday.

Jason Lytle's Yours Truly, the Commuter is fabulous as well.

&Steph. 01-19-2010 07:36 PM

The Sophtware Slump is fantastic.

dankrsta 05-16-2010 06:29 PM

I admit, it was always harder for me to come by a pop music that will grab me, hook me, always more difficult to get into it. But when I heard "The Sophtware Slump", shortly after it came out, it was love on first hearing. 'The Crystal Lake', 'Hewlett's Daughter', 'Miner at the Dial-A-View', etc, and especially my favorite 'He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's The Pilot' are all wonderful songs with melodies that melt my heart. It's one of the most beautiful pop albums I've ever heard.

I completely agree with this. I'm listening to The Sophtware Slump right now after not having heard it quite a while and it really is a fantastic album. I'm also a big fan of Sumday. It's funny, I actually sort of avoid both of these albums a bit now though. I find they make me feel almost painfully nostalgic for the period of my life when they were new.

DavidJNichols 05-14-2011 10:56 PM

Grandaddy was awesome. I saw them in 2002-ish with Low in Seattle. Cool show. Low was boring as ****.

I also like that "Walk up The Side of The Mountain" video or whatever it's called.
