It just doesnt grab me like the second half does. It kind of dwindles along. I've listened to this album a lot, had it for a while, so its not an impulsive judgement. Metronomic Underground is good, but the album takes a lull for a few tracks before really picking up IMO

some of my friends were huge into stereolab and i have a few discs as well. while emperor tomato ketchup is good it's not the be all end all that some people try to make it appear to be.

i remember liking the aluminum tunes compilations far more.

I tried this band earlier this year and hated it; listened today to Mars Audiac Quintet and it was glorious. Fecking brilliance.

I've been really getting into Stereolab as of late, "Emperor Tomato Ketchup" and "Chemical Chords" are both great works. I've heard that they went on Hiatus just recently which I'm sort of Indifferent to mainly because I know I'd probably never see them live and I still have to flesh out their entire back catalog. Has anyone had the chance to check out Lætitia Sadier's side project Monade? I'm sort of Hoping they can tour a bit because of the hiatus with Stereolab.

So I've really been getting into the earlier Groop albums that no one seems to really be mentioning. "Transient Noise Bursts With Random Announcements" is probably one of my favorite Lab records with "Mars Audiac Quintent" following closely in second. I just love the way they incorporate their krautrock influences with a smidge of French Chanson. It's just so fresh and different, yet it feels familiar and cool. I have yet to meet another fan of the Groop in real life, which depresses me greatly. They're just so wonderful!

The almost 18 minute version of "Jenny Ondioline" is simply just amazing.

I'm surprised people haven't mentioned them much myself...those two in particular are my favorite Stereolab albums! Emperor Tomato Ketchup and Dots and Loops follow closely. And Margarine Eclipse. I guess I like most of their albums.

I only have Dots and Loops and Emperor Tomato Ketchup at the moment, but I must go investigate them further. They've such an eclectic mix of sounds and influences that it's nearly impossible to categorise them, they just make music at their own free will. Any suggestions on what albums to move onto next?

Get the 3 Switched On compilations.

For all their good albums I think Stereolab are a better singles / E.P.s band and those 3 albums collect all of them.
