Nah I haven't, just listening to them now and they seem tidy. Pretty Shinish and remind me a bit of Gorrilaz and even a bit of Mattafix, I like it, cheers.

I'd probably say afterwards, more like Deserter's Songs/All Is Dream. I like their first two and the third probably has my favourite Mercury Rev song-Young Man's stride, but I was kinda thinking more recent to be honest.

Spotify recommends several for The Shins

Thanks for those. Yeah, I really should get back to using spotify, I got rid of it about three years ago when they started clamping down/limiting what you could listen to and haven't really used it since. Probably a bad idea since I've gotten a bit lazy in finding things for myself....Thanks though!

New-ish band called Alpines that I'm really enjoying at the moment. If you like acts such as Saint Saviour, Theme Park etc then you should check them out.

Good video -

Sexy Fi - their new album came out a few weeks ago...it was mixed by John McEntire from Tortoise/Sea and Cake/Stereolab/whoelsehasnthebeeninvolvedwith

Best tune: Keep Cooler, from when they were still playing SXSW under the name Nancy

jent 11-16-2012 04:12 PM

I would recommend HAIM. Best family girl band out right now.

katsy 11-16-2012 05:18 PM

Last.Fm is giving me nothing I want, so.. I'm gonna try here. (I'm sick of girl bands at the moment-- unless it's 100% kick-ass)

Here's what I'm digging:
Love, love Alt-J (Thanks Vanilla!)

I'm always happy when Vampire Weekend pops up.

Dirty Projectors and Frightened Rabbit are new on my radar-- I like them quite a bit.

A few more:
Wild Beasts, The Unicorns, Cold War Kids

Can you give me anything based on the above mentioned? Or if you love these bands as much as I do, clearly we have the same tastes, so just give me a good recommedation!

katsy 11-17-2012 04:58 PM

Well, I did some searching around and found some stuff that I'm pretty pleased with. So pleased, that I felt obliged to share. (you may show your pleasure)

Another new band/album from this year that I see going hand-in-hand with Alt-J is Django Django. The album is eponymous. They don't sound alike but they're both British and have similar indie sensibilities and sort of carve their own sound. Although Django Django remind me of The Beta Band at times.

Regarding Generaltionals, their debut Con Law is their best in my opinion, I haven't been able to get into anything else they've done since. The song "Salt City" on the latest EP Lucky Numbers is good but the rest is crap IMO.

new music site

I've been loving this thread for reading new music suggestions over the last week.

I've been trying out putting all of my new music recommendations into a simple website, in 10 track spotify mixtapes. Just thought I'd share.

Let me know what you think, and if you find it useful for finding new music. It;s at tenjams dotcom x

jent 12-08-2012 05:19 PM

Soo, anybody discover The Neighbourhood yet? I like the "I'm Sorry..." EP. They're like indie pop with some hip hop mixed in there.

Now you know never to make that mistake again.

Really like this! Lots of pop (and I love pop music of all kinds), but not too much that it gets boring.

Does anybody have anything for me from 2012?

simoirs 12-27-2012 09:34 AM

Pavement..

Is there anything as sunny and feelgood as them?

I think Archers of Loaf is the quintessential partner band to Pavement. And also, Sebadoh.

simoirs 12-27-2012 10:57 AM

Thanks, I'll try them!

I like Django Django - psychedelic art pop (spotify description)-- right up my alley. Thanks.

So I need a little help from you guys. Long story short - who are the awesomest live acts out there that are: reasonably accessible, mediumishly popular, and super energetic/fun?

luckyseventh 01-18-2013 07:42 PM

i mostly like melancolic stuff, like radiohead, feist, and etc. really like female vocals (more mellow), especially stuff like regina spektor, fiona apple, st vincent, cat power and bat for lashes

any ideas

klipers 01-20-2013 05:50 AM

My favorite ones are these:
Arcade Fire, The National, The Woods, Pyrrhura, Bombay Bicycle Club, Interpol, Tame Impala, ...

I love Bombay Bicycle Club. So few people, I know, know who are they are. They just recently toured(touring?) the US, so maybe more people have had the chance to hear them.

Johnty82 01-28-2013 06:24 AM

I'm loving Vanity Box from Nottingham at the moment. Quality band with quality tracks and a solid live show. Relatively small at the moment but are getting good press and good shows. Well worth checking out.

hannahx97 01-28-2013 01:46 PM

I need some happy but alt music!

I really like anything from Animal Collective to Sonic Youth to honestly anything. But, I need some songs to bring up my spirits a bit when I'm down! any ideas?

if not, I'd love to just hear about more bands and stuff you love c:

Hell yeah! They rock.

I listen to Two Door Cinema Club a lot recently and this is about the same genre this is going.

I assume if you like The Meat Puppets you've also explored Violent Femmes? They have a lot in common, and they're both great.
As for The Breeders, the obvious comparisons are Pixies and The Throwing Muses because of member overlap.
